Over to you Cliff

even though a real bloke would be checking the manual for the first time :qReminds me of my BIL. Buys a new car and takes delivery on Friday after work.

Goes shopping and pulls into the kerb, across a street to reverse park.

Frantic phone call to me whilst holding up half of Dandenong to find out how to get reverse.

I could hear the panic in his voice and the rather testy comments from other vehicles and the more I tried to explain the more flustered he got.

After about a minute or so, a strange voice comes on the phone, "Your friend is getting very flustered and can't work out what to do, maybe I can do it for him."

"Tell him to get out," says I. He duly does and the other person gets in.

Explain to him that you pull the little flange up and you can move the gear lever to reverse.

Done deal.

Car reverses into kerb. "Explain to my idiot BIL what you just did and show him."

"OK," says strange man and hangs up.

10 minutes later BIL rings up again.

"I can't get the car into gear."

"Put your foot on the brake," says I and hang up.

He made the mistake of telling his wife what had happened, the whole family knew in about 25 mins and he has never been allowed to forget it.
