Ultimately, we are all potential bigots, even the most broad minded of us have a limit. At some point, the 'disagree but respect your right' position runs out of legs...

Hence my suggestion ...we should blow up all bigots!
The only downside of this is that it would leave only non bigots alive....
They could sit around and think pure thoughts... and everything would be just peachy.................sounds like heaven.
Theres no heated discussions, no differences of opinion in heaven.... they must give you a frontal lobotomy as you're passing through those gates

I agree "Kill all extremists!" But lets leave a few bigots around, its fun playing the name and shame game.
And dont worry Funky, there will come a time and then they'll all know. brew ha ha ha ha.... And as John Belushi said "well... me and the Lord... We've got this thing going..."

Not all religions
Some actually get preferential treatment in relation to the use of drugs
US supreme court ruled that a New mexican church should be exempt from the law, which everyone else has to obey.

something I didnt know before reading Dawkins
I didn't say debate was a waste of energy, just this one. Besides, it's against the rules
I disagree this debate is a waste of energy. The above info is one example of why I think this is so.
IMO religion gets a little to much quiet respect. Whats wrong with asking questions ? and debating the answers you are given ?
I also dont see how respectful debate is against the rules.
you will not use this Bulletin Board to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law
It is pointless to debate with someone about whether or not their invisible friend is real. All the logic and science in the world wont help you. Their belief hinges upon their faith that he exists despite all evidence to the contrary, so it is an argument that cannot be won, because there is no way you can prove that he does not exist.. As an atheist I could imagine I personally would be in a bit of trouble if that were to ever happen. While Europe (and you could maybe include Australia) is becoming incresingly secular, You only need to look at the US or the middle east to see examples of how pervasive and powerful a force religion is.
Debate raises consciousness and I think that that fact means it is never a waste of energy.
cheers

FC, I may disagree intensely with your opinions, but I will fight to the death (or morning tea, whichever comes first) for your right to expose yourself to ridicule and merciless p!ss-taking by posting them in a woodwork forum.
(The above is not true, but it sounds reasonable.)

2nd August 2007, 02:04 PM #75why is it pointless ?
I also dont see how respectful debate is against the rules.
Edit: And by the way, as an agnostic, I find your atheist stance every bit as illogical as Funky Chicken's. So there you go"I don't practice what I preach because I'm not the kind of person I'm preaching to."
