Help! Sealing a jarrah floor.
Hi. First time on the board and gald I found it!
Have just finished repairing part of a jarrah floor (Firepalce removal). Succesfully replaced the boards. Went to seal it and oops . . the colour is (very) different to the rest of the original floor.
The original floor has a nice warm 'orange' colour to it but my effort has come out very deep red and it some places almost balck!!!
I used Cabot's CFP - Gloss as the sealer. Then apply the Sealer?
Can I stain it to the 'orangey' colour
Appreciate any help.
Thanls.

have to go with Harry on this one. It sounds like the Jarrah you put in did just what it is meant to. Maybe it is some other hardwood. There is something nice forget what it is that is a Salmon sort of colour before it is coated. You can stain timber to get it to go darker but going lighter wouln't be likely. See if you can get Neil onto it when he gets back to town he might know something.
Maybe you should try sanding back a bit of the old stuff and putting some Cabot's on that to see what it does.

Thanks all .. but
Yes thanks all . . . but am (nearly sure) it's jarrah. When I sand it it "looks" the same. Just when I seal it it is very red.
How to get hold of Neil?

sand some of the other you are trying to match it too Rupert and you will get an idea what is going on.
Get a copy of Neil's book the polishers handbook c/- Ubeaut. See what you can find out in there. The obvious things I guess are that the timbers aren't matched. The finish on the old stuff has changed it's colour the finish on the new stuff is changing it's colour. Before I went crazy I'd sand a bit of the old stuff back to get an idea what is going on
