Cool Oil Finish for Wood Ute Sides

    G'day folk,

Just about to replace the aluminium sides of my tray back ute with hardwood. Purchased 25mm sawn recycled railway sleepers from Northern Rivers Recycled Timber. Should look pretty cool.

But my question to you learned folk is what finish? I was leaning to a cheap oil that is easy for me to apply a top up from time to time. I guess I am really just wanting to protect from graying and a little bit from dirt.

    Any thoughts?

    Chris

"I guess I am really just wanting to protect from graying and a little bit from dirt." Then go for a Marine finish.

I second that - but even then don't expect it to last too long - will you be able to park under cover most of the time?

Have a look at some of the penetrating deck coatings at Bunnings, there are several options They will stand up to a bit of abuse and still look natural and easier to touch up and rejuvenate

Contact Organoil and see what they have. What you're looking for is kind'a their speciality.

Their products are all natural oils and easy to apply with the added benefit of stopping cracking and to a lesser extent preserving colour but I wouldn't expect too much by way of it not graying.
