    Default Who can you trust

Well who can you trust? I was under the mistaken belief that anyone here could be trusted to not take advantage of a fellow forumite.

Before I go any further, I have run this past and have his Okey Dokey as long as I dont mention any names...

Just reciently I contacted a member about an item he had for sale, I recieved a PM saying the item was mine and that he would post the item once the money was in his bank account.

I sent the money that day, and waited for my package to arrive. After two weeks I had not seen my package, and was "a bit concerned". I sent the member a quick PM asking when I could expect the package. At about the same time I recieved a PM from one of the moderators, enquiring discreetly as to how my purchase was progressing... I was now a bit more concerned.

I decided to do a bit of google searching and did a quick cross reference using the members name, and his bank details as well as a whitepages search for the member in his home state. This gave me what I felt was a valid home phone number. I rang the number only to hear the standard telstra " this number is not connected" message.

Feeling very deflated, I contacted a moderator and was given a mobile number to try, this resulted in finally contacting the member and gaining a "promise" that the package would be sent "TODAY". a week went by and no package, so I sent a text message which got a reply two days later, the excuse this time was " been sick, moved house, packge returned because he addressed it incorrectly" etc, etc...

It has now been two weeks since my last contact with the member, who has now been banned, and still no package.

I rang again today only to get his message bank, I left a message and am now angry and upset at my treatment...

I have half conceded that I have done my money, but half hope that with every postal visit this will be the day..

I realise that there is one in every bunch, but to be treated like this from a fellow forumite, I find myself wondering just how can you sort out in this day and age exactly who you can trust?

May I add here that during the same time period, I have ordered and recieved several packages from the USA with no problems at all...

I would like to also express my gratitude to the moderators who have kept track of the goings on here and taken an interest in my "welfare" during this time...

That's terrible Kev, sorry to hear this. All the forumites I have had any dealings with have been first class and honest but I guess there is always going to be one rotten apple in a barrel. I have found there is a loyalty between members of this forum and I, like you, trust the other members to do the right thing and try to do the right thing by other members of the forum too.

It is very disturbing when something, like you have experienced happens but don't lose faith mate. It makes your blood boil I know but people like that are few and far apart in this forum thankfully. I hope he/she is the only rotten apple in the barrel and I am glad the powers that be have banned the person involved,
People like that are just a wart on the neck of society.
    Reality is no background music.
    Cheers John

I can't understand why the name of the ex member can't be named and identified. It appears that the moderators have confirmed Kev Y story. At best the person concerned is very slack. At worst he is.................

I remember a post about Southern Star Campers that included the full name of the person concerned. The owner Scott was in effect doing the same thing as this person and the forum allowed the business name, his name etc to be mentioned.

I am sorry to have learnt of your sad experience, Kev.Y, but don't let this deter you from future deals on this forum. I have had nothing but great success in buying gear from fellow forumites, unlike a some of my eBay experiences which were not unlike yours, or where the goods supplied were absolute rubbish
    regards,

    Dengy

Why not name him? Precisely because he is an ex-member and his ip address has been blocked. There is no benefit in naming him as no member will be dealing with him under his member name again.

I am not prepared to debate if I should name the ex member, said "no names", so if he says "no names" I am not one to go against him.

Have you met him?? he scares the carp out of me

Seriously, I see no benefit in naming the person, I really just needed to vent and make everyone aware that no matter how safe you feel you just can not trust everyone.

    Kev

I am sorry to hear about your misfortune. Unfortunately I also can relate to a Forum Member who shall remain nameless. I gave him a whole Ute load of beautiful hardwood timber I had slabbed up and all I wanted was something he could turn up on his lathe like a bowl as he promised.
You know I can still remember him driving away arm out the window waving and the ute springs compressed down to the axle. He must have had the biggest grin on his face.
How stupid I was and now I am very cautious of what dealings I do. I realise that 99% og people of this forum are just wonderful people who wish to share there knowledge and help other people including myself but there is always that 1 % you have look out for.
    Cheers

Wongo, The money transferred was less than $100. and as for a reason for him not contacting me, well I wont wear that one as he has already contacted me once, so he does know how to reach me....

Sorry to hear this has happened. I hope karma rears it's head.

I also would have trusted any forum member to do the right thing.

Hopefully it's a one off thing

I can only agree with the positive feedback given re other more responsible Forum members.
It is disappointing to hear of this on the Forum.

is there a way we can cheer you up Kev? Perhaps a few pieces of timber? a tool you have always wanted (not including a Domino)?

    Go on- make a wish!

Sorry to hear of your problem Kev.

Unfortunately we are not immune to the dishonest nature of some. I can understand the "taste" it leaves in your mouth but would suggest that you have found one of the rare exceptions and that it is not an indicator of the forum's population - not an optimist or cynic but like to regard myself as a realist.

Like others, I have had nothing but excellent dealings with forumites with the only possible exception being some non replies by some to thread contributions - this is simply a case of manners and I guess I'm just a little old fashioned in that department.

    Regards,
    Bob
