I can only assume that grief makes people totally unreasonable! I don't envy you one little bit having to break bad news, especially if people are going to have a go at you.

I would have expected that telling relatives the same day that you find out the identity of the victim would be pretty good work on the part of the police. If the victim lives on their own then it would be quite reasonable to expect a number of days to pass before relatives were located and informed.

For your sake I hope most people look more like their picture on their drivers licence than I do mine. My photo was redone a few months ago - the previous picture was way way way out of date yet VicRoads would have happily let me keep it.
no-one said on their death bed I wish I spent more time in the office!

UK system is ( or at least was when I left ) that you get so many days ( 5 from memory ) to front up to the local police station with your licence. much more civilized ( but given the snow they are having at the moment I think civilization is sometimes overrated before SilentC has a go at me )
Still applies but for certain offences we now have on the spot fines plus more speed cameras than you can imagine, which means huge revenue for the police force. Its worth £Millions every year. But that said, yes we are terribly civilised over here, and Jackie, all you little possums over there will be one day too,,,its just going to take a little time. HRH current visit to your country must be an inspiration to you all and he will visit again one day i'm sure.
The snow? well, we take that in our stride over here, were a tough lot you know and nothing gets us down besides , the cool weather does wonders for our complexions, porcelaine like skin and no need for that zincy stuff that you all have to put on your noses, and of course our young ladies dont ride bicycles wearing bikinis so we dont have old men leering at them or taking photographs of them to post on forums for dirty old men to talk about, so yes, all in all, this is a damn good place to be. Come and visit sometime.

Yes it is but it wads taken a few years ago, she's a bit taller now and needs longer ski's, I might add we only XC, hate downhill, no fun at all.
And the reference to questionable parentage was in the nicest possible way local term of endearment, but I prefer to be called MR. Bastard

    beejay,

I visit the UK every few years to catch up with the rellos, but I wouldn't live there for quids. The place is grossly overcrowded, the cost of living, particularly petrol, food, and housing, is horrendous. And the weather is endlessly depressing. Can't think how you put up with it. Come and visit sometime.

Well rocker, someones got to fly the flag. Your observations are somewhat understated however, UK is the absolute pits of a place to live but I guess its what you get used to. Every place is a mix of good and bad unfortunately our mix is more weighted the wrong way. But hell Im not complaining it'll be spring soon and the rains and flooding will be with us, the birds are singin' and ive stopped wearing my thermal undies now, until May, when summer moves to Autumn and the golden leaves begin to fall, clogging up the drains. Im eagerly anticipating putting down the roof on the little roadster for a few days as the long term forecast is quite good for the summer, so that will be fun, fresh air(only 30% smog content) and the wind blowing through my hair, whats left of it anyway, makes you feel its good to be alive.
We may splash out this year and have a couple of days holiday in Skegness, we are quite well off so what the hell, a paddle in the sea, pie and chips on the promenade, its what memories are made of. I'll even post a couple of piccies for the forum.
I said we may have a holiday, but that depends on how much the quarterly gas bill is of course. It could be a biggy this time as weve had the central heating on twice this month but only on Sunday nights and only for three hours, just to get warmed up a bit and in the mood, if you get my drift
but we'll see how it goes.
We are one of the fortunates as we own our house, or will do in 2150 when the mortgage is paid up, so you see, we have security which is more than others do over here.
Anyhow Rocker Im telling you this in confidence so please keep it to yourself. Ive enjoyed our little chat... which could be our last....as I think i now wish to go to my wee workshop and shoot myself.
Thanks Rocker for raising my spirits youre a real pal. Bastard!!!!

If I ever do visit Oz again would some of you hold a bbq for me, ive not had prawns since 1989.

Yes, on the day that we become a republic. Even Charlie thinks that it is inevitable that we will become one and that he will never become a King of Australia.

And if he wants to come and visit us after that he can pay his own way instead of sponging of Aussie's taxpayers to the tune of $ 1M for this little jaunt. And he's not even visiting Al's Craporium .

I'm going back to see the relatives in a couple of weeks - I'm hoping the weather picks up a bit before I arrive as my mum isn't going to be too pleased if I stack her car on ice. My sister has apparently been saving some wallpaper stripping for me - very therapeutic stripping wallpaper - I'll probably need the therapy after tackling the traffic jams on the M25 again.

Anyone got any recommendations for good places to visit in the west country - haven't been down there since I was a kid.
