Thats because it is the closest thing to a real beer that a commercial brewer makes, in Oz anyway.

Have you tested your homebrew in all conditiions? Hot, cold, with hot and ugly barmaids, in different chairs etc. Only then can you know it's agreat beer.

Carlton black is as good, if not better than Toohey's Old, but that's jusy my opinion

Carlton Black is good but Tooheys Old is easier to find & therefore usually cheaper.
