Thread: Is moderation here biased?

I composed a post the other day that turned to vapour somehow. There may well be a glitch somewhere, has anyone else noticed their posts vaporising for no apparent reason?

I vote Yes!
But I question why it is seen as bad?
Whenever someone screams"Bias!!" everyone assumes it to be negative.
There have been many recent threads whingeingand whineing
about moderation etc etc.
As it has been clearly pointed out on many occasions, including previously by woodbutcher
"The owner, administrators and moderators of this BB reserve the right to delete any message or members for any or no reason whatsoever. "
This is not a democratic forum, it is run by Neil/Ubeaut and as a guest or member we are subjected to their bias how they see the forum should be run!!
This is, has and will probably always be a great forum to log onto, learn a bit of woodwork and have a laugh - what more could you want??
Get over it- It is time we got back to the woodwork!!

I read the post that SBrandan (Shaun) posted and can't understand why it was deleted. It did mention the government but the governments actions or lack there of have been mentioned mention many time in this thread.
I think Shaun was hard done by in this instance.Photo Gallery

As this is a woodworking forum, I assume you mean the old left-tilt vs. right-tilt table saw debate. I think it has been done to death. Just use whichever one you feel more comfortable with--and in any case be very careful whichever way your saw tilts not to cut your fingers off.
Cheers,
Bob

Yes, the moderators are biased.
How could any person not have a bias? Show me an unbiased person and I'll show you a 'yes man'.
Do I have a problem with any of the moderators?
NO, not at all.
Not because they agree with my positions, but because they do an excellent, fair and often thankless job.
I'm sure that when a moderator comes across a post that stirrs the pot too much, or plays the man, that they might step in - and apply a decision based on their perspective (i.e. bias).... however I do think that a fair cross section of all views are seen across the board.
Anyway, apparently the forum is supposed to be a Woodwork forum, not a uni debate room, bar or coffee shop!

Maybe Shaun should be privately asking the moderators or administrators why his post was deleted instead of trying to turn this issue into another sledging against the management team (which we are all getting very sick and tired of)
As quite a few people have mentioned in this thread, none of us in the moderation team get paid a cent for what we do. We are all human and have our own opinions of what is suitable content, but we are all individuals which means that trying to have one hard and fast set of standards is near impossible.
Basically it comes down to this, we don't have to give anyone a reason why a post is/was deleted or moderated. Considering I alone spend at least an hour just doing moderation duties here almost everyday which is time I don't get to leisurely browse the forums, I don't want to have to be spending another hour (or more) writing messages justifying what I've done. And before anyone says it, I do this job because I enjoy being a part of this community, becuase I've made some damn good friends because of this place.
So if you don't like what we do or how we do it then bugger off, because realistically you are in a very, very small minority here!Have a nice day - Cheers

I wouldn't know. It be natural for some to lean one way or the other eh.
Far better than some sites though. Some are just biased entirely by mates. I got banned from a site in the UK. No, I wasn't rude. I just told the truth, and because it was against a favorite member, I was 'removed'. Convienently too before I got a chance to display the hard facts. The thread was removed as well, because uno, you don't want anybody thinking badly of your mate, no matter what the truth is.
They wrote under my name.....which is displayed under every post I've made......' Banned - last warning '......lovely. I was lied too, got understandably angry about it, and got banned for it..... Mateship. Its good to have mates. But if your alone against a bunch of them, you haven't got a chance, no matter what the truth is.

Not biased.
A little inconsistent at times but so is the weather.
Don't know what we would do without them.
To the Mods.

I dont usually vote on these poll things but made an exception this time
My vote?
No
Reasons
While its true they dont have to explain why theyve deleted or "modified" {see daddiddlydaddles I membas things} Ive found that in almost all instances where my post has been removed or tampered with the mod in question has contacted me one way or the other to advise me of the so called "error of my ways" breach as they see it and given me the opportunity to change the post myself or explained why the change was viewed as necessary... on reflection I always came to the conclusion...
No worries
Only once a fair while back was one of the gits underhanded enough to swat my post and not explain why but I put that down to the wrong time of the month for him
In fact I think theyre pretty damned lenient in their moderation of posts and threads
Thing is I think they no more want to swat a thread or post than anyone else but they have been offered and accepted for their own masochistic - sadistic reasons to help and assist Neil and moderate and "control" this board so that anyone regardless of age or gender will feel comfortable joining learning and sharing
I say bloody good on em! keep up the workthankless task by fellow woodnuts and woodboobs who give their time with no reward rare thanks and often {ala this thread} tinged with deigration... why? so we can all enjoy what is by far the best damned woodworkers site on the net... bar none!
A better thread poll would be something like
"Do you think Neil should shout the mods a round or two?" to that Id say YES!!needless to say so would they while Neil would have conipshuns while frantically dialing for help!!
Believe me there IS life beyond marriage!!! Relax breathe and smile learn to laugh again from the heart so it reaches the eyes!!
