V8 supercars came about because of dwindling interest in the older class system. Sadly by appealing to the lowest common denominator and a formula that even a labrador could understand a money/marketing machine was born.

Did I see a Chrysler 300 pace car there? Nice piece of iron that. Got a lot of Cadillac in it - wonder how that happened? Shame about Commodore coming second but it keeps the competition going. I love Commodores...... but you guessed that.
