I agree with Schwartskopf when he said, "we dont judge people, we let god do that, its our job to facilitate that meeting."

Hey
Need to clarify my comment about getting hurt is part of the job.....meant bumps and scrapes or maybe a black eye in the heat of an arrest.
Not the shocking injuries from missiles that they are currently having.
cheers

DanP,
You're are getting a bit soft after that last birthday."Bean bag pellets". Really?
What happened to the real deal; good old lead. I suppose OH&P won't let you near the stuff in case a little bit rubs off on someones skin.
Let's face it; Those plicks are trying to burn you ALIVE. And when they keep coming back with more molotovs; they are trying their damnest to kill you, and you can't convince me otherwise.
If they are prepared to kill you; it is only fair that they should be prepared for the same to happen to them.
What happened to the old "reading of the riot act" law. Is it still sitting under a pile of dust somewhere? From my memory(as poor as it is); once read; and anybody who has not dispersed after the nominated time (5 minutes or whatever) and who is hurt or killed has no recourse whatsoever. They have had their chance to leave the battle zone.
As to some of the weak-gutted judiciary; if they are not prepared to sentence them severely; maybe they should be required to undergo the full sentence themselves for aiding and abetting the offenders after the fact. In reality they are ensuring that the crooks gets away with as light a penality as possible.
Any do-gooders comments ??????? Let the flames begin from you; as by lunch tomorrow I have more pressing places to be and wont be on-line for posssibly some time anyway.
Too hard for you? remember; if you pick up a snake by the tail, it's going to bite you; grab it by the throat and at least you have been able to protect yourself. Goes for the sharp end/ blunt end of a chisel or anything else you wish to think of.
I think I will go and have my medicine now and get my breath back.

I currently work as a cop in sydney, on the nice beaches side tho. With all these riots etc that are going on, its just like the Redfern incident all over again. Some say Police should just leave them be, but it starts every time a Police vehicle drives down a particular street. If Police were to leave these surburbs and not patrol them then it would turn into even more of a hell hole. So Police must patrol them, and if they are going to be attacked with bricks etc then they should be able to protect themselves and use some force to arrest the attackers. If this means OC, Batons, Shields and a bit of muscle then so be it. But unfortunately it has got to the point were Police are unable to do anything. It is because of the soft people who make the decisions and legislation, they have never experienced a night out on the truck (paddy wagaon). Put some of the magistrates and pollies on a shift or two over there and then see what they have to say. I am sure a lot of parents would also be shocked as to what they lovely little offspring are getting upto. Magistrates, Pollies, Parents all need to wake up and support the Police. As an officer we are constanlty having to cover our **** in everything we do. Granted that some years back some Polcice may have gone overboard with violence etc, but these days it has reverted too far the opposite way, the crims no Police can't give them a touch up. There is no respect or fear of the police.
Even if they do get a water cannon, they will be very reluctant to use it for fear of being made out to be unfair on the crims by the media and certain community groups. The OSG need more support and be allowed to do there job properely not stand then and take it all. They need to do something as the Redefern incident was not long ago, now the MF incident, I wonder what the next one will be??? I am sure I won't have to wait lot to see.
Anyways my two cents. Everyone has an opinion.

This post is bringing all the coppers out of the woodwork (
)
When Nanna Nixon took over the reins of the Victoria Police, she had all her Officers go out to stations to "get in touch" with the troops, to "remember how it was" on the van etc. She herself went out to a station.
As usual, a fantastic idea, in theory. She went to a quiet station and answered the counter a couple of times. Took a lost property report, got a few happy snaps for the news, etc. NOT ONE of them went out in the van. They all sat in an office or went out with the station OIC for a leisurely drive around the neighbourhood. It's complete and utter bullsheet. If you want to get in touch, work a friday night in town, on the road, RESPONDING TO JOBS. Work ANY arvo shift in Dandenong, Frankston, Springvale, Footscray or Broadmeadows, RESPONDING TO JOBS.
I'd like to see one Officer have to deal with a domestic dispute utilising the new code of practice that THEY wrote and WE have to follow. I'd like to see one officer go one up into a pub brawl involving 30 - 40 people and deal with it without getting themselves beaten to a pulp, (however, I wouldn't mind them getting beaten either, it's a win/win). Just once I'd like an officer who has some idea what I have to go through each and every time I'm "on the van".
Again, stopping before has to wield the stick,
DanIs there anything easier done than said?- Stacky. The bottom pub, Cobram.

... and how do the police win here, with the Press Vultures setting them up so beautifully?
Don't chase the car, the kids wipe 'emselves out anyway, and there are questions asked.
Don't chase the car and let anyone get away with knocking off cars and the journo's report it to encourage more car theft.
If the Police don't fight back, they are made out to be ineffectual.
If they do, they are the bad guys or worse.
If they don't for the first three nights, then do, they are not only bad, but stupid for waiting.
This is a call for censorship!! MAKE the press report clearly and in an unbiased way.... let them tell us who the grub driving the car was, and that his dead mates were after all participating in a crime.
MAKE them publish photos of all the idiots on the streets with rocks and fire and identify who they are so that every potential jury member in the country will have no option but to be well appraised of what went on.
I just don't understand how the "public" can be outraged because someone was running away with property that didn't belong to them.... maybe all the outraged people should have to leave their cars unlocked with the keys in the ignition, so the poor defenceless (innocent) kids can borrow them whenever they like, thereby avoiding this whole thing in the first place.
Cheers,
P

Curses, curses, curses
I spent ten minutes penning an erudite and only mildly outrageous exposition of this whole problem. Then leant on the bloody keyboard and wiped the flamin' lot.
Bugger this. I'm going out in the shed and building boats. At least there I get to sit back and review my mistakes
