    Thumbs up

These were taken by my Uncle at my parent's property on Australia Day.
Glendon is about 70Kms (ATCF) west of Longreach.
The old white shed in some of the photos are the, now closed, Katherine Creek State School. It opened in 1968, I when there for 3 years.
The photos have stunning colour contrasts due to the odd light cased by having one part of the sky blacked out by the storm & the other part still relatively bright.

Photos 4 & 5 overlap but I have never tried any photo stitching.
    Cliff.

Great pix Cliff, water doesn't appear to be a problem there - which makes a pleasant change from all of the news reports re who has none and who has too much.

BTW how are you and Mick getting on up where you are - webbed feet and hopefully no damage.

    Regards,
    Bob

The waterholes were all man made... I mean, Mum made.
My Mum has been digging waterholes around the house for years. (with a bit of help from a few others along the way)
They get filled when it rains & she tops them up with bore water in the dry season.
They help keep the place a bit cooler in summer & they also help to keep some of her collection of gum trees alive.

We, Mick & I, haven't been near any wind lately, a fair bit of rain but no wind.
There has been heaps more rain a bit south of us in the last week, mostly coastal.
On the rain fall map attached, Mick is a bit to the north west of Cairns & I am west of Innisfail just out of the purple area into the blue area.
We have had about 7" 175mm since Australia Day.
Have a look at how much they have had west of Longreach in the last week.
They only got about 6mm out of that storm where the photo was taken.
The place 10Kms away that was under that storm at the time got 67mm.
    Cliff.

According to the meteorologist on the radio yesterday morning Kuranda got 120mm in about 2 hours on Thursday night. Not sure how much we got last night but there were some pretty heavy falls. Thursday night the drains across my drive way silted up and overflowed flooding my garage and the store room behind it. Probably only to about 5 - 10mm depth, but enough to fill it all with silt. Beats being short of water though

    Alex,
SWMBO is very ill at the moment and I can't really leave the house. I did duck across the road to look at the river and it's reasonably high so I'd guess the falls are, well, falling.

Ahhh the memories you've stirred up Cliff! Have they still got the canvas deckchairs in there? Most comfortable time I've ever had at the movies!

Yeap, we went there last night, saw 2 current movies for $11 a head. Only place I know of that you can take a Pizza in to the movies.

Ooops, sorry if I mislead you, that is not my house, I was talking about the very wet green tablelands in general.
That is an old farm on Loyde Rd. not far from Lake Barrine or Tinaroo dam.
Our place is at the wetter end of the tablelands between Tarzali & Millaa Millaa. Our power comes off the Tarzali feeder.

Knowing the way I horde things, I've probably still got the plans of that feeder somewhere - visiting every power pole in a district is a great way to get to know where everything is - stingin's trees, leeches, wait-a-while, 6m Scrubbies, good places to roll a cruiser..............................

.............but I did love the area - magic country!
