    Question Colophony Resin

    Hi all

As a fresh faced wood working enthusiast, I want to try all types of possible bits and pieces. I am currently working on stoppers and wish to try the beaumontage recipe in famous "Polishers Handbook" but can not find any one in the town (Bunbury , WA) who nows any thing about Colophony Resin.

Can someone please advise where I can pick this elusive item up from?

    Cheers

    Ken

    Ken,
Check out your local art supliers(s) for colophony/rosin. Rosin is also used with violins - I'm told thi is not the same quality as artists rosin(but I'm not certain?). If they don't have it they should be able to order it - although I did get stupid looks from a couple of stores that I tried. If all else fails give the people at St Lukes in Gertrude St Fitzroy (Vic) a call - they stock it and may do mail orders?

I've found it to be a good recipe and a very easy and high quality filling method - although it does have it's hazards, especially if you decide to speed things up and do away with a double boiler

    Hope this helps,
    Mark

In my previous life, we used to sell , rosin, ( the struff was used in some skin applications, to make dance floors nice and slippery and also to make a violin meouw). So if you have a really old pharmacy in Bunbury or the South West you may just be lucky. However if the pharmacist is young, don't be surprised if you get a blank look on the face!

    Thanks Mark/Joe.

Tried both avenues as suggested and got the bewildered blank look, I am an alien type face, however I will try up Perth way. One chemist did suggest Colophony powder, I assume this is the same substance. Can some one confirm

    Xmas cheers

    Ken
