Default IT advice about making CD or DVD

I'd like to make a promotional CD or DVD for the scout camp.

Is it possible to make a cd so it will autostart in a PC or Mac and also automatically run a tv through a normal VCR or DVD.

I suspect a DVD is essential instead of a CD but I don't have a dvd burner so I am hoping its possible to do it with a cd writer.

    And most importantly
    HOW do I do it?
    Regards, Bob Thomas

Yes, but I can't put you in the direction of any PC software I'm afraid.

No, you need a DVD not a CD.

Sorry Bob, all the PC blokes will hate me here, but you just need the standard Mac (iLife) Suite of Software that comes with the machine: iMovie, iDVD, iPhoto and GarageBand, and maybe if you are going to modify some other clips you might have to spring $60 for Quicktime Pro.

It may be cheaper to buy a Mac Mini, with all that stuff on it, than spring for the PC software.

I use Sonic My DVD which burns CD video as well as DVD's.
Works on my DVD player but can't comment on Mac.
Try a google search as I think its a freebie.

Generally, if you make it on a Mac you can play it on a PC, if you make it on a PC you can play it on a Mac as long as you haven't created it as a Windows .exe file, and if it plays on a Tele DVD player, it'll play on anything.

The important thing is to produce it as a stand alone document, whatever the DVD player format is, not as a file from an application.

    Cheers,
    P
