Default What do i do to improve my rendering?

this is pretty much the first time i have done rendering after watching hundreds of rendering youtube videos over the last 12 months
im using quickwall render, i started off with the primer on the wall, then i put the skim coat on to make it all flat, that seemed to work out not too bad for my first attempt.
top coat i was using the quickwall quicksand render stuff.
possibly i put it on too thick.
the instructions say to float it with a plastic float which i got form the render shop and they even said that is to float it in circles. but when i started floating it in circles it sort of went to crap, the edge of the trowel started digging in and the surface started looking like crap.
the top half of the wall i tried circular floating it.
i gave up and went tot he bottom half and floated it with the same float in a linear motion starting from the bottom and going up to half way putting a bit of pressure on the bottom half of the float with decent pressure.
this worked out far better than the circular motion where it seemed to be ripping it off the wall.
now what did i do wrong there with the circular motion? how come i couldnt float it that way?? i waited about 20 minutes or so before floating.

Not a renderer but I suspect it will be consistency and moisture content related.

Floated in circles ? Tight circles ????
Bottom half would have had a bit more drying time particularly if when applying the render you went bottom to top. Top had too much moisture ????

The instructions make note of misting, maybe the moisture dropped from top to bottom by gravity? Need to mist more on the top ????

tried in around 50mm radius circles, started rendering from the top and floating from the top.
i even tried spraying water on and made it worse
thats when i gave up and moved to the bottom half with just straight lines from bottom up that worked far better for me.

So more moisture made it worse, I assume the render was applied bottom to top ?

Sounds like top was too wet, more moisture made it worse.
Moving to the bottom where it had more time to dry was better.

That would be my take on it.
Happy for a renderer to correct me.
