Wood fire door
A23.jpgEvening all.The glass in this wood fire has been replaced with a piece of cement sheet.I`m guessing not real safe as could explode once fire is burning hot.So what other than finding suitable glass would suffice? Piece of heavy sheet metal? gordo

What's wrong with a piece of glass readily available from the fire place stores? Sheet metal would work but you loose the visual effect of a fire.

Probably nothing Bohdan.Never owned/used one of these & rarely use a regular heater but i keep getting told it gets bleeding cold in Tassie. So i`ll measure size when i`m down there next week. Thanks

Dumb question here. Doesn't the concrete board prevent the radiant heat through the glass?
If I had to replace it, I would call a glass shop and ask about a replacement. If they don't have it, they would probably direct you to a source.

I was involved in the recall and eradication of asbestos in the gas/plumbing industry in VIC from 1983(?).
By and large, I would be comfortable in saying that there would minimal asbestos in cement sheet in Victoria provided it was produced after the 1980's. Other states like Tasmania may be different, but I would be surprised.
