A short answer is yes. But what is really important is the preparation before you even think about putting a finish on.

Others will chime in and give you some indications of what they do in preparing a surface so it is ready for the Minwax. Different types of wood also have different preparation requirements which can effect the final finish.

If you look at some of the pens that have been finished with Minwax on the forum you will see some absolute stunning results. You need to apply several/many coats and be patient but well worth the effort. I have seen many projects other than pens finished with Minwax and they can be awesome. You have to experiment with your finishes and techniques to find something that suits your own needs.

One thing you will have to remember is that their are quite a few Minwax finishes. We seem to use a lot of Minwax Wipe on Poly, but you can get ordinary Minway Poly as well. One is thinned down the other much thicker. They also come in Gloss and Satin.

Which one you select may just need a slightly different approach.
