    Default Solar Battery Query

My retirement house has 5kW solar panels on the shed, I am thinking of getting batteries.
Looking for recommendations, any thing to look out for?

you will want LARGER solar system to offset what your using during the day as well as charge for over night.

also do the sums, not much point in spending $5k - 10K on batteries if your bills are like $50 a quarter

There really are too many variables in the solar PV industry to comment on any detail. Have a good look around solarquotes.com.au there's good independent advice there. They have tools to calculate whether a battery is worth it for you. If you think it is, get the contacts of 3 installers they will arrange for you and use them all to see and compare what they all have to say. That'll get you started, perhaps confused, but on the way...

Solarquotes is good. Especially if you download a years worth of data from your electricity provider. They can calculate a few of the best systems. Most likely it will be marginal. Batteries still seem too expensive for cost effectiveness (payback is still too long) but good to stick it to companies. My expectations are that govt and companies will just keep moving goal posts to screw us over whatever we do. One good option is to buy an ev that you can use as a battery for the house too. Heard several stories of people enjoying several days of power while the rest of us were losing food during floods/ cyclone etc.
