Large opening (5.7m) with no lintel
Couldn't think of a decent title for this thread but basically I would appreciate it if anyone has any clever ideas to solve this problem.
At the back of our house is a conventional double brick wall, with roof loads on the external skin like this:

I want to knock out the back wall and put in a stacking glass door (5.7m wide), where the glass extends the full way up to the ceiling, so no visible head, like this

Obviously the rafters need to be supported now that the wall is gone, the best solution I can come up with is to place a beam in the ceiling, set back from the wall and then overhang the rafters out over the top of the sliding door, like this

Is there another simpler solution I'm missing? Anyone got any thoughts?
