attaching verandah post to deck
Hi Guys,
I a have an existing 1.5m W x 6m L verandah (deck) which I want to put a roof over. It is on concrete stumps with bolts going through bearers.
Can anyone suggest what methods are available to attach the posts?
I was going to check the 100x100 posts and bolt them to the 45mm wide joists. Is this the norm?
I also though of putting a steel plate either side of the post and dropping this down either side of bearer and bolting them. This way I could keep the bottom of the post off the deck.
Any suggestions?
Garry.

Garry try putting a sketch or photo of what you already have to make it a bit clearer...sorry I'm a bit slow at present.

Maybe I'm going overboard but if there is going to be no bracing you might want a bit more support than your suggestions. It would be good to get the post right into the ground and bolt to the joists. A roof would mean a bit of wind load to consider. Maybe it can be connected to teh house too?
Pics would be good.
