Proper respirator for $5 new at bigreenshed

Just bought two of these respirators from Bnngs and spare filters for 50 cents. They fit just fine and are a little fiddly to put together but really this is an absolute gift. Last time I bought a set like this it cost me $40 and the cartridges were $15 each and it was not as well made.

They are P2 cartridges so if anything just but them for the cartridges.

Look like a knock off of the 3m Tekk units.

Australian Rural Supplies sell them for $70 with a cartridges for $8.30.

My local store in Oxley has these but they are not with the rest of the safety gear in the "tool shop" and the staff members were clueless as to their whereabouts. Because they are "a promotional item" the respirators were stuck on an upturned cardboard box in the paint section and the filters were on one or two of those clip hangers that they position between shelves. Some were in the gardening section and some were in the paint section but as far away from the respirators as it is possible to get them!

I was about to give up when I asked a "team member" and he was new (on his third day) so very helpful and he asked around the other "team members" until they gave a general indication - then he found them for me. Well done to him, but not so well done to those that sent me on a wild goose chase around the store.

At that price I bought one just out of interest. I've tried it and the inlet flap on one side makes an annoying 'waffling' sound as I breath in. However it appears to close fully on exhale. I'm not sure if the inhale noise is going to be unbearable long term.

At the Burleigh store the masks were on a box in an aisle at the back of the tool shop.

I've used one for a few hours now and the 'waffling' sound is a bit odd but my brain turned it off after a while. The important thing is that its very dust proof and quite comfortable so I think its the best five bucks I've spent since I joined the bowling club and got two free drinks.

Looked for these at my local and they could only find the filters! Will keep an eye out but any Perth people looking for them then I'd avoid trying Morley.

at that price don't expect to buy filters long term ..... but hey they are close to retail price on a hald decent paper mask.

Well I tried to find these and couldn't, neither could the staff. Then I noticed that there were various SafeCorp products either hanging on hooks or a hook line, or on a stand alone box in an aisle.

Finally, and after their oldest staff member was located, he remembered that they had them at some stage, but maybe they were sold out. He tried various ways to find them on the computer, to no avail.

As we were walking back to the front of the store he spied the filter packs. We both searched in the area and eventually found two units on a descending hook thing that had been moved to a shelf. I took both units and all the filter packs left, all six of them. There is a difference between what the OP has shown and what I picked up. The box my units came in are virtually a cube of clear hard plastic, there are no filters in the pack. One has to purchase a pair of P2 filters, not a problem at $0.50 a pair. Each filter comprises an adaptor, filter and retainer.

The unit is called, SafeCorp R8 Respirator, which may help people with an in store search.

Came home and in the afternoon kitted myself out then did some turning. Works wonderfully well, very comfortable, must be as I had it on for about 1½ hours straight. Yep, there is a bit of waffling noise, but it didn't bother me and when the lathe and vacuum system is up and running, can't hear a thing.

Sits very well on the face and I have a beard, not a long one, I have always found sealing an issue with face masks with any kind of beard, but not this one. The plastic that sits on your face is very soft and pliable/sealable. I was wearing the respirator, followed by my glasses, then my Armadillo face mask on top of the lot. I did have to drop the respirator down as low as possible to wear the glasses, everything worked.

At one stage I was making some very fine dust, not a problem at all. Possibly the best $5.50 I have spent in a long time.

They also have ear muffs for $2. They look a bit on the cheap side but for @2 definitely worth a try. Sam e brand

After reading this thread I found filters and masks at the Wallsend (Newcastle) store. The filters were in the tool store and the masks were down the back near the trade area. They are excellent value and look to be a very similar design to the 3m 7502 that I have. Although the filters look the same I could not easily get these 50c filters to fit my 3m mask but I think I could with some fiddling. I will have another crack tomorrow.

Couldn't find spare filters in Melbourne Mt Waverley.... but got two masks.. for $5 it's not bad expense.. Hopefully will have a chance to try it over the Weekend...
