Have you tried trying on a smaller mask?

Go the 3m if you're going to get a half face mask, head to your nearest RSEA store or specialist safety store. They'll also have all the filters you'll need.

Its a false economy buying cheap face masks as the silicon ends up hardening over time or the straps loosen up making them useless. The other advantage of going 3M is you can get replacement parts if required.

Various MSDS for HMR particle board show it has ~15% resin some of which may be a formaldehyde type resin.
Some of this will break down when cutting/sanding and release formaldehyde
HMR particle board also contains free formaldehyde at the 1ppm level.

It depends on your exposure (amount of dust and time of exposure) and your sensitivity. Unless you are sensitised a few hours per week is unlikely to do much but it can sensitise you for future use of these types of materials. A mask that filters out organic vapours as well would make more sense than a wood dust/particulate only mask.

I am Caucasian and I can never get BigChain masks to fit, either.

I agree with Tonzeyd, go to a specialist safety equipment supplier who have people who can properly fit you and explain the risks and benefits properly.

    I ended up with this:

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/3m-mediu...rator_p3370263

It filters particles and fumes and fits great. Its really comfortable compared to other types of masks Ive worn in the past.

So there was a fumes filter in a sealed package and a particle filter which was just out there.

Are there particle only filters for this mask?

edit: to clarify - the mask has 2 mounts. the fumes filter connects to the mount and the particle filter connects to the fumes filter. would like a particle filter which can connect to the mounts directly

edit2: does anyone know if the fumes filter is suitable to use whilst welding galvanised steel?
