What a shame. He was heavily involved in woodwork all his life and a great help to a lot of learning woodworkers. He'll be missed. :(
I agree, talented, unassuming and worked to the end, and for me anyway, someone to aspire to.
What a great loss to woodworking. 93 so he had a good life, but somehow you expect such inspirational people as Maloof to live forever.
George Nakashima nearly 20 years ago, Art Carpenter and Tage Frid a few years ago, now Sam Maloof. Gradually the ranks of the woodworking greats are thinning. The next generation of "greats" certainly have some big shoes to fill.

He was a great man. A humble woodworker, thats how he wanted to be remembered. Not an artist but a woodworker.
A great man who contributed so much to the industry, his name will live on for many years to come
He's left a great legacy, no doubt will be missed greatly. I'd like his bandsaw, it made him look like a genius:;:;:;

It's sad news...
Amazing woodworker, very humble and open to sharing. He'll certainly be missed, but leaves a lot of inspiration and energy in the furniture He has made and the books he has written.

Yes I agree that was sad news to hear for me this morning.
However I was very pleased to hear of his age 93, it just goes to show that working in an atmosphere around timber doesn't mean it is an hazardous pursuit.
Such a shame. Sam Maloof was someone that I've read a lot about and who inspired me in my short woodworking hobby thus far. Sad to see him go.

I hope all you rocking chair makers noticed that Sam Maloof passed away on the 27 May last week at the age of 93. The man just inspired me more than I believed possible. As far as I'm concerned the world is worse for his passing but better for what he gave us as a craftsman and as a humble human being. Any rocking chair I make from now on will celabrate his memory.:(:(
