Found this video on the FWW website, here it is from YouTube for those who don't have subscription. Makes you wonder if where you're from has anything to do with stupidity.

If a little bit of knowledge is dangerous, how bad is too much enthusiasm? I'm all for having a tinker with things but this guy is wasting his time, just get a start cap.

Ok this is probably something I won't do or at least admit doing openly. But why it is the worst tablesaw video like FWW suggested?
Starting the motor – OK it is primitive and interesting but I can’t see anything wrong with that. Can you? At least he lowered the blade first.
Cutting the wood – OK he should have removed the rip fence. But it doesn't make it the worst ever.
Blade guard – Plenty of professional woodworkers on the FWW magazine cut wood without one. Don't believe me? Go watch their DVDs and read their books and mags.
So for FWW to say it is the worst ever, I think it is total BS.
It probaly isn't the worst table saw video ever..... but what makes it so bad is that he is specificaly showing his bad methods :o and puropsely displaying his dangerous ignorance.:no:
Pluss he has no good reason for using a machine in that state......he simply could not wait to get the correct parts and fit them before using the machine.:~
There are many of us :D that might try something similar..... but would we pourposely put video evidence of our stupidity on the web for the world to see.:no:

Not agreeing that it's the worst video I've seen, there are many, but as Soundman has pointed out, he could've waited to get a new capacitor.

Sometimes a foot or a shoulder gives an extra pair of hands, other times it's just plain stupid.
A pair of safety glasses would be a cheap investment....

Apart from the rip fence and lack of blade guard, the most glaring stupidity was having the power switch at the out feed end of the saw where it is inaccessible to the operator in an emergency.
More than likely partly covered by the work during ripping operations as well, so that if you do have a problem and need to stop the saw, you have to clear the work fom the saw (probably single handed) before you can stop the saw.
For all his mucking with the motor, he could have at least relocated the switch to a point accessible to the feed side of the saw.

As others at youtube said, no hearing protection, no eye protection, nothing to prevent kickback.
I was pretty amazed recently when I ripped a smallish length (about 900mm) of pinus radiata. The cut closed right up. Without kickback protection, it could have been lifted off the saw and thrown across the shed.
And, he's got no idea that what he does is dangerous, go look at his framing video.

Agree. I reckon it was a deliberate attempt at producing the worst video, and it failed, but still mildly amusing. That said, it was ok except for the rip fence being hard up againsed the cross cut. That was dangerous.Quote:

Has he managed to con the world, promoted a joke of what someone who only has one brain cell [I'm being generous] would do? He really appears to be quite chuffed with himself or he deserves an Oscar.
If it is real, unfortunately he has bred, what an example - quite incredible.
I've not bothered too much with the Tube stuff on the net before - probably, in the main, a good choice.

I agree with you, theres plenty of much more dangerous behavior commonly practiced on new and old table saws that what this guy has done. I did think serious numb skull though, not the sort of thing to show off cause it is sending the message to others that it's a good thing to opperate like this. i agree it was a strange way to start the thing, but not really dangerous. what made me flinch was him putting pressure on the left hand side of the board as it passed through the saw - far too much risk of pushing the piece into the rising teeth for my liking.
Look on it as Darwin-ism at work.
I think I am having trouble breathing!!! aaaargh, that is so wrong I don't know where to start!!!
The apprehension that something was going to go wrong and hurt his little girl had me feeling quite squeemish. I was watching those hands push the timber past the spinning blade and expecting to see the offcut fly or his hand slip....
Not the worst TS video...but enough to give me nightmares.
