Find the picture/website and win the prize

OK - I'm getting a tad desparate :gaah:. I can't find the thread with the link or picture of the machine that made ribbons and ribbons of wisper thin shavings, shavings that were the full width of the timber eg 90 mm or 120 mm wide. The end result I'm after is to be able to get my hands on some of those timber shavings, the really long ones.

First person to post here with the results can have their choice of an A5 Leatherbound notebook cover made by me or a $20 Bunnies Voucher.


I'm fairly sure I came across the picture or link here.
let's see the machine reminded me of a Thicknesser, it was a surfacing machine, I can't be sure if it was for floorboards or anything else. What I do remember is the amazing long shavings it produced.

So, any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Andy - Derek's wood shavings are the wisper-ness I'm looking for,:2tsup: but streamers and ribbons of them.

More remembered stuff - the pictures looked like the walls were painted white and camera flash reflected off the wall but getting darker/greyer towards the egdes, um, how some pictures look when taken at night. it was a long workshop, plenty of room to run the long boards through to get the miles of shavings. There were two or three pictures, one of the machine with the shavings in front of it, another one of the shaving, and the last of the long workshop with the in/out feed areas.

Hmm, starting to sound like a web page. But I'm still sure one of the pictures was shown here during this year.

Midge - I have an idea germinating away about these shavings and these size and length of shavings in particular. the idea isn't more than that a present, but welll, who knows :rolleyes::)

Wendy, you are unlikely to find one in Oz, Europe or the USA. They never really took off.

Stramit industries shred polplar and compress it into stramit ceiling panels.
Its the same stuff that's seen inside many evaporative coolers.

I haven't got any contact details but they used to manufacture it in Bendigo

There is a specialised plane for making long strips, used in those woven wooden baskets much loved by 'Mericans for putting berries in. Having a bit of brain failure, but it is in one of the Lee Valley's 'Make-your-own-wooden-plane' books - I can't find my copy ATM.

The product is somewhat thicker than a 'curly shaving' but you can wet & bend the strips for basket weaving.

Otherwise, take some lessons from Derek & make your own from scrap. I notice you are not admitting what you want to make out of the shavings.

No, I still don't know exactly what I'll be using the shavings for.

I wondered how long it would be before I got asked, "why don't you make your own" :D

If Stramit Industries or similar aren't able to help, then I think I will simply have to try making my own :rolleyes::)

Maybe you could order your type and size of shavings!

Yes Mr NCArcher, that is what I need - good picture! , but... I figure why make my own (to start with) when there must be heaps out there, I just need to find them.

And look at the further links and ideas that have been posted. Oh I'm so gonna get some shavings soon and have some fun - that should keep my muse happy :D
