Don't know don't watch them, saw part of one interview they did with sophia loren (she is 73 now and still a beautiful lady) and to be asked at a press confrence if she farted lost me, Mabye i'm just a bit spoilt, use to watch norman gunsten he did his interviews with humor
Gunston! Now THERE was a comedian of the finest order! Still recall that interview he TRIED to do with that little American actress... couldnt get a word in edgewise cause she wouldnt stop phissin herself!!! She totally lost the plot with him :U :U Funny god I couldnt stop laughing and even now thinking about his confused look and her gigglin cracks me up :U
aahh but back to the chasers... seems to me they may be whisked of to Gitmo for a short stay :o they are a tad over the top I think often dangerous with what they do to try to get a rise... sometimes however they do put dipstick pollies on the backstep... which IS good!!
Would have liked them to have actually got in front of Bush... just to see HIS face!! Now THAT would have been hysterical :U :2tsup: but then I just dont like that idiot
Youve got to love them havent you, what they have done is shown the pompous histeria called APEC for what it is. Poor cops who had to do the deed, just made the Chasers national heros
they shouldn't have been arrested because they should have been turned away before they accessed a secure area. The police took their embarrassment at their own ineptitude out on the chasers. What if it was a couple of car loads of suicide bombers the police were opening barricades for "because they had a little flag on their bonnet".
All this expense and all this inconvenience and it's that easy to drive up to Bush's hotel :B:doh:
It's a win situation for everybody involved - almost.
The police would have been happy as it gave them a little excitement in an otherwise boring job.
The Chasers would be happy because of the publicity they received. You can't buy that sort of publicity.
The ABC would be happy because they will probably be able to move the show to 7pm and replace the news because of the publicity.
The only losers will be the silly buggers who allowed them in.
Not the brightest of acts, there are snipers in the roof tops and all forms of security in place and that stunt did expose them and others to some risk. Certainly they should not have got through as far as they did, but the fact that they ended up being detained without any over the top behaviour from the police does show professionalism on the cops part despite what appears to be an initial slip up.
The show can be funny and at other times makes me cringe, this time if they end up with a few days in the clink it will simply give the ratings a boost. If they end up in gaol they knew the risk, they had been warned, and internationally have done us no favours, who cares.
John.
So what is the real truth?
Some are saying they had a PERMIT for the areas they went into and were stopped when trying to go beyond that. From the media's point of view simply saying they were stopped in their tracks isn't half the news of being able to say they got through a few checkpoints and were finally caught.
Hard to tell where the truth stops and fantasy begins..
So had the organizers. The chaser group had put out a press release last week saying they were going to do something big.. Do you think they would have let their peoplke know to keep an eye on them......
Any punishment metered out to them will be only to cover the embarrassment of the security organisers. All they did was show the security for what it was, a sham
Fact they were in identical vehicles to Bushes???
how the heck did they know what he'd be in or any other person attending and where did they get it this makes the supplier an accessory??
ok the 4x4 are standard issue for security USA
With any luck an future president will think twice about coming to AU and save us the hassle.
This APEC has caused more hassles than many people will know about.
My daughter for one almost tossed her job in over having to be at work today along with just 2 others to service the whole country while every other person demanded and gets their Public holiday.
Oh they are located no where near the city Miperra.
Yes. They broke the law and should have been arrested.
They should also be rewarded for harmlessly showing an incredible flaw in the security net. The good ol' security bods seem to have a problem if you haven't hijacked a plane using a corkscrew don't they?
It shows the true value of all those snipers though doesn't it?
Cheers,
P
:D
hear hear, (or is it here, here)
Wonder if they would have got that close if it had been in America.:?
in case you missed it, here's a copy of the security passes that were used.
:oo:

Locked away at her majesty pleasure:2tsup:
One of the most immature and childish shows on television, just reflects the people that watch.:(
swmbo thinks they're great... personally I think they're all a bunch of private school boys who haven't grown up... just not that funny...
hee hee though!
Quik review of Security needed.
You were correct the first time.
I think the Chaser guys should have been arrested because they are alleged to have broken the law (let the courts decide). I do think it was pretty funny though.
First lecture I received when arriving in Malaysia on my RAAF tour. If the gate guards yell out Berhenti... it means stop. Keep going and they shoot. They are just lucky that they didn't get a shot across thier bows. Still we are Aussies and love a laugh.
Arrested- yes
Charged-No
APEC is the best thing to send up in ages. Good on them.
I don't watch them but my general view is the more pompous the occasion, the more and bigger takers are required.
If the chasers could get that far imagine if someone seriously wanted to go further. If anyone should be locked up it should be the security people who failed to spot them.
Cheers
For the first couple of times I watched them, I found them hilarious. The formula wears thin quickly, though, and I particularly do not like it when some poor soul gets caught in the crossfire. Totally agree with Bob that "the more pompous the occasion, the more and bigger takers are required."
As far as the legalities are concerned, yes, they should be arrested and charged if they broke any law. No point in having laws if you do not enforce them or make exceptions for "celebrities". The test of maturity will be in the sentencing.
The people whose incompetence was exposed should not be locked up, should be reprimanded and trained or at worst fired.
I was once told a WW2 story that, true or invented, illustrates the issues involved here.
A cavalry officer with more arrogance than brains, once jumped with his horse the barricade around the camp "to test security". By the time the poor soul on guard had blurted out the regulation 'who's there' and 'stop' before shooting, the officer was inside. The soldier on guard got in deep do-do for dereliction of duty. The officer tried again a few days later. By this time word had got around. The soldier on guard happened to be a good shot. Too bad for the officer. Amen.
i love thier show so of course i think they shouldnt be arrested. just maybe moved from the area.
it would will be a pretty funny show on wednesday so i'll have to make sure i watch it
cheers
Arrested - Yes.
Punishment-- A big reward for showing the farcical "security"???? system up.
Arrested - Yes
Interviewed - Yes
Charged - If there is a prima facie case - Yes
Was it funny - God yeah :2tsup:
Were they in danger from snipers - No
Are the NSW bosses soooks - Yep
Has the whole APEC security been blown out of all proportion - God yeah
cheers
In the Courier Mail (QLD) today ABC said that the only reason that their legal team allowed the stunt is because they expected that the chasers would not even get close to the first checkpoint. Apparently they never thought that it would be possible to get in so far!
Good on them for showing up Bonsai Johnny's $120 Million Security
There seems to be a multitude of stories circulating about what actually happened. One version I heard was that they approached a checkpoint/entrance to the prohibited area, showed their obviously fake passes and were allowed in. (A result they didn't really expect, but they would say that.)
Assuming that version is true: were they really breaking the law if they approached a checkpoint and presented obviously bogus IDs that didn't really represent them as authorised persons and were still allowed in?
My view:
Should they have been arrested? Probably - and it will boost ratings even more.
Should they be charged? Probably.
Should they be convicted? Probably not.
Are they funny? Very. Sometimes hilarious.
I'm not sure they should have been arrested.
Maybe they should have been charged.
I don't think they are particularly funny either.
But! If the snipers had blown their brains out that would have been hilarious! Perhaps not for the poor old snipers though.....
Question, Who would have ordered the snipers to shoot. I was under the impression that the snipers would have been given orders to only shoot in dire circumstances or when given the order to take the shot NOT BEFORE. A motorcade of official looking cars isnt dire circumstances, unless someone in higher authority gave them permission to take the shot no shooting will (and did) occur
They could only have shot if there was an imminent threat of death or serious injury.
APEC or no APEC, the law is the same for everyone.
I actually think they are guilty of causing "Gross embarressment" to the police and govt. Wonder if they can make that a retrospective law
It's ironic that since they work for the ABC, the govt. is footing the bill for all this chaos from both sides of the equation. Oh well. It might be worth a laugh and it will certainly boost the chaser's ratings. Doesn't help the govt. much though. :D
BTW. Did you notice that it didn't take Bush long to make his first blunder? He's almost as bad as old Bjelke but not as funny. Saying OPEC instead of APEC. He's got the oils on the brain, but sorry, we've got none here. Invade somewhere else. :q
That was one of the funniest bits of telly i have seen for a while. Aus comedy is in a very bad state and the chasers are a breath of fresh air. I loved the body guards prancin beside the car and one of them nearly getting his foot run over:D.
And yep, they should have been charged, but will get a slap on the wrist and sign a new multi million $$$$ contract at the same time.
Better than that overated crok of $h!t kath and kim:)
I remember hearing an interview with one of the Chasers where he said that the formula had limited life and probably wouldnt last more that a couple of years. They may have legs if this got international attention. Ive heard the War on America book is a scream,
