Yesty... Forstner bit jumped the hole and into the finger munched both tenons and minced the meat inside... overnight stay and surguy later Im a bloody one flippered penguin for a month :C That is my finga an flippa :o

And funny thing was as I lifted the drill it and it caught it was sorta like my mind went oooh shyte this is gonna hurt... yep its my "favorite" cutting finga... I mean if Im gonna cut or in this instance drill a finga its the left index one that gets it :doh:
Not as bad as that other one in the other thread but at least you know who owned this one :B
I have learnt a solid lesson... use forstner bits in a drill press not in a hand drill :no: :no: :doh:

yep your right Mick but its another Im allergic too... only serious pain killers I can have are Largactil and Fernergon not pain killers really more I think tranquilizers knock me out for 24 hours and then mushed brain for another 24 :no: :no: :no:

it's bad enough hurting yourself but if you're allergic to pain killers it really sucks! Bugger!:( I seriously think that you and a few others hereabouts who seem to be accident prone need to seriously re-evaluate your work procedures. Safety needs to become an ingrained habit, something that's considered at every step of the job, and throughout your day. I don't think I'm paranoid and I've been engaged in high risk occupations and past times for a large part of my life but it's highly unusual for me to even need a bandaid. (Scribing ridge capping is one time I might need a bandaid, but that's about it) I really don't want to be reading about any serious injuries here (shudder):(

Sorry about your oops, Shane. Hand-held tool OR hand-held workpiece, BUT NOT BOTH! Or preferably, neither. I had all the fun I need with a Lancelot. Didn't hurt at all at first; 'course, my wiring's shot, so that might not mean much.
Have you tried "non-prescription" painkillers? Worth a try if you don't mind peeing a lot.

Strewth!! :oo: Jeez Dingo your having a shocker of a month. I hope the finger heals quick and it's back to 100% functionality. You might want to consider wearing armour, helmet and gauntlets next time you enter your shed :;

Dingo, check with your chemist for an over the counter pain killer called "Veganin" - strong and works for me. I usually have a box on hand - don't use them at all often - usually have to toss some out as the box goes out of date. You will probably have to show ID and sign for them - I did last time.

That's a good rule to live by. I use forstners in my hand drill all the time but only on things that don't need to be held with one hand. Both hands on the drill, keep the meaty bits away, no problems.Quote:

When I cut me thumb off they wouldn't give me morphine until they had taken & replaced the cut-off-bit of the thumb about a dozen times :(( :(( :(( :(( :(( I kept saying "this really hurts here!!!" as the blood ran down my arm & dripped off my elbow into a bucket. :oo:
It wasn't until I finally grabbed the doctor by the throat & reminded him through clenched teeth that it really did hurt, that he thought it prudent to administer morphine.............

Commiserations on the damage.
I too am amazed at the people who seem to keep a camera on hand to record the damage, and then manage to record the whole thing in such clarity & detail.
I'm usually too busy trying to stem the flow of blood,:oo: plus I don't have dust proof covers for any of my cameras.
It good to learn from your mistakes.:doh: ......It's even better to learn from someone else's mistakes.

Well the bandaging plaster and stitches came out the other day after 14 days covered... man ohhh man did it ever STINK! :C Anyway... there was a bit of a worrying panic for about an hour or so after they took them off as the wedding ring was noticed to still be on the finger! :o the hand specialist on looking at it looked up at me then at the finnger then at the wife then back at the finger "you dont wear a wedding ring do you?" "yeah" "good god!" and he quickly buggared of out of the room and stayed gone for a good few minutes coming back with the surgeon and the registrar along with several other important lookin nobs and nobbettes and they proceeded to all look peer and shake their collective heads the surgeon looked casually muttered "Im due in surgery" and left...
The problem was that since he had left it on the finger had swollen so much only a thin band was able to be seen the hand specialist was all for operating there and then... to remove the bloody finger!! :o luckily the missus and the wee young nurse that was there asked them to just wait and see if it would go down enough to cut the ring off he reluctantly gave them "1/2 an hour" and luckily with the two of them washing and massaging the ring finger the swelling went down enough that the wee nurse could prize the weird cutter under bit and cut it... then it was just a matter of the missus holding my hand to stop me flinching while she bent the ring apart... whallah ring off :2tsup: surgury to remove finger off... thank gawd!
I go back to see him on Wednesday to check the ring finger then again in two weeks for the index... talk about bloody dramas :C :B
So here we are

BTW when I turned 50 my health went kapput despite giving up smokes, beer, s3x and chocolate. I keep telling the doctor I gave up all the things that kept me healthy. :no:
Two weeks: Not bad for that much progress. I short order, you'll be back to (ahem) "normal.":D
