Another puter question.

Ages ago I bought Paintshop Pro X by Corel.
Cost me about $150 with postage and everything.

Anyway I didnt like it too much so I uninstalled it, it had few features that I liked even though I downloaded the trial first.
How come I didnt not like it in trial mode? :doh:

Anyway......I would now like to reinstall it so I can use the few feature I liked.

Every time I try I get an error message that Windows Installer cant install it because of some bull excuse. :C

Is there some way around this, it seems only to be this program that the Windows installer is having the problem with..

Well, see if you can download a new version, maybe it will install and accept your registration key.

Sounds like your windows installer version has gotten too far ahead of the game?

If that doesn't help, turn it off at the wall. :)

I downloaded a new version of the installer which didnt help.
And I installed it before you ask. :doh:

I also downloaded another trial version of Paintshop Pro X, but that wouldnt install either.

I have done a search on my puter and deleted all the files I can find relevant to PS P X.

Windows XP Pro

It goes through the preparing to Install bit, then just stops.

Error message ( because I did it again to get the error message)

This package could not be opened.
Verify something or other, apart from Windows being a piece of unstable crap..

The little window closed.

Sounds like a phantom and dud PSP package in the way. Check to see that your temp folder is relatively free of junk - use the disc cleanup that comes with XP if you can find it :)

Or get a Mac :D

how long ago did you bye paint shop pro , did you upgrade to XPpro after , check the paintshop booklet to se if it is XP compatable , ( any dos based programs might have problems with XP )

After the clean up the problem is still the same.

Message.
Verify that the patch package exists and that you can access it.
Or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer patch package.

Yep I did the uninstall thing.
This is what is bugging me so much, I played by their rules and it still wont happen.

Makes me not wont to but Corel software in the future.

Oz the problem is an incomlete uninstall.
You need to go into safe mode. Shut down your puter, restart and press f8 continuosly as it boots up. from an admistrator a/c go to add remove programs and check if the program is still listed. uninstall if still listed.
If not listed you need to manually search out as many files as possible that are associated with paint shop and manually delete them. Right click on start choose explore and start opening folders looking for files that are associated with paint shop pro
Look under each users name, all users, any shared file folders, program files, windows

You could try (In safe mode) search for files or folders and see how manyfiles it gets you.

make sure system restore is operating and a restore point is available prior to deleting any files. you shouldnt need it but its better to be safe than sorry.

I had a very similar problem with "quicktime".

Try google "uninstall problem paintshop pro" and look for forums where people have had a similar problems.

Ive done a little looking around for you OZ. A program called ccleaner should fix your problem.
This program is avaliable free to download from the url below. I have used this program many times to sort registry problems.

Once you have downloaded and installed the program you should be able to access it from an icon on your desktop. open the program, click on "issues" then click on "scan for issues" follow the progress by the green bar at the top of the window. once it reaches 100% click on fix selected issues choose back up changes and note where the changes are backed up to (usually my documents) select save and then fix all selected issues. It may be necessary to run the program 2 or 3 times to get all the problems sorted.

Thanks guys, ran crap cleaner 4 times until there were no more issues, but I still cant install the software.

PSP has always been a beast after you uninstall as it leaves various files and registry entries in odd places. As you are a registrerd purchaser you really will have to follow the official advice.

Could you do a system restore to before you installed the original trial version.
Or do a reformat and resinstall everything.

Apparently the guy I bought my computer off 2 years ago installed a bodgy copy of Windows so I cant run the software patch from Microsoft.

Na it's not a patch....It's saying that some antispyware software could cause installation problems...Corel are saying to read the knowledge base http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;902330

Method one

3. Under Currently installed programs and updates, see whether the following programs are listed:

That's crap! Take it back to him and get him to fix it then.

Ask for your money back.
You bought a product license you are unable to use.

It's really up to the buyer to ask for disks and copy of licences for software installed on any computer before purchase.

Ill have to pay the licence fee with Microsoft I suppose.

At least they havent locked or wiped my computer when Ive visited their site.
