ADSL 1.5M/256k with Internode
Don, great site, thanks
Iain, what plan and with who?
Martrix, you've got really crap upload speed, who you with? I also hope that latency is wrong. Waiting 9 seconds to get a response back would be really crappy.
BigPing Cable
Down 9660 kb/sec
Up 118 kb/sec
Latency 66
I ran it again and got.....

Telstra Big*&$d
Dunno whats going on.
The first test was on a puter on the end of the network at the other end of the house...2 comps connected via Ethernet to a main comp with a router.
Here is the test of the main comphttp://www.speedtest.net/result/69705914.png
any clues?
Something not quiet right.
Says upload is 900 odd K and should only be 128k. Latency is a problem.
Wouldn't mind the download speeds some are getting. Was getting 1500kbs but provider cut us back to 512kbs because Telstra was charging them more rental on the copper stuff so they passed on the increase. Could still get faster but for alot more $$$

Optus Cable.
There is no local test server here in Perth but here's mine anyway from my home wireless network - cable BB in Perth to the Adelaide/Melb/Sydney servers.
Interestingly it's faster to Syd/Melb than to Adelaide.
I guess it's ok for being 2000 miles away!

Oh, for Optus Cable again.
I've had Telstra Cable, Optus Cable and ADSL from Telstra and Internode.
Optus Cable was the best hands down.
With Telstra you pay more get less. They included uploads as well as downloads in there monthly usage. Also, their 'Unlimited' plans aren't. They are shaped, that is they throttle your download speeds when you exceed your download limit.
Martrix, I have no idea why your network speeds are so slow. Is it wireless? Have you done a test again?
The best I've got from Optus cable is 1010/122. Nowhere near the numbers that other people are getting. I wonder why mine is so much slower? Maybe there's more people on my LAN? :? :?
Zed, what do you get from your Optus cable?
That's how it works Craig, try it again at 3 am.

TPG adsl2+ but limited to a standard DSl modem so capped at 8mbs. also have fault on the line so max connection is 6144 Kb/s / 512 Kb/s
I wouldn't be getting too excited chaps. These tests dont mean a great deal. At least run a series of tests at different times of the day on several different servers over a few days at least. This way you might get a more accurate idea of your average speeds. 1 isolated reading off 1 server dont tell you much. I jsut did two quick tests and the first showed 528 KBS downlaod ythe next showed over 9000 kbs.

We've done this all before and I always win:
Neighborhood Cable Premium (ncable.net.au/) 17159 / 2277 to Melb 50miles - 12141 / 2105 to Adelaide 400 miles
I pay 49.95 per month for 5gb download. Prices have changed a little since I joined 12 mth ago but mine has stayed the same.
:D
Usually about 5500 KB except when the kiddies are on after school and before supper then it slows down to 1500 KB. Or 5.5 meg slowing to 1.5 meg.
About $43US from Time Warner cable. (It's about the only thing that keeps us from moving to the Dish Network for TV.
I'm with Neil, every time we play he wins, and I lose, big time. :C
