Fisher & Paykel Washer (IW709) Error Codes

Ok ..... this is a long shot but what the hell.

I have a Fisher & Paykel washing machine (Model IW709).
The thing just died but fortunate enough it tells me on the LCD screen what went wrong. The error/service code is 37, help I need a service.

All well and good having the machine self diagnose but without a list of codes provided by F&P it isn't much good. I am sure Mr Service is still going to charge through the nose even though the machine has told him what is wrong.

Does anybody know what error code 37 is before I call Mr Service $$$$?

Actully the Stinkette has just turned it on again and it seems to be working again for now.

To quote the manual page 21:

"SINGLE BEEP EVERY SECOND AND...
ÒI need serviceÓ message and fault number.
1. Turn your machine off at the wall.
2. Wait 1 minute and turn it back on.
3. If the fault re-occurs repeat Step 1.
If the machine still will not work
call your Fisher & Paykel Dealer or
Authorised Service Centre to arrange service."

Call the F&P help line and quote them the code, they have in the past then been able to diagnose the problem for me and advise the part that needs to be replaced, which you can then do yourself.

Urghh :(, We had a problem (without codes) and had to remove the agitator and get to the filtertrap. There was a 'thing' in there that both kids disowned and the missus and I had never seen before - we can only assume it was the love child of long lost socks. Anyway, took it out and off she went again, right as rain.

Maybe a call to the F&P Help Desk as suggested - they obviously won't let the codes out. I have searched the net with no luck so far.

I'll stick to my wood, and when SWMBO's copper breaks down it's usually just a case of make another poker for it. Low-tech can be marvellous stuff in a high-tech world. :D

This is not for a IW709 but a GWL10, maybe the code means the same thing.

Stinky if it won't drain might well be something in the pump
Empty the machine with a bucket etc, tilt the machine back and the pump can be axcessed , front rt hand cnr I think , by turning the case clockwise , then check for anything caught , toothpick bobby pin etc:D

Thanks for the replies guys .....

I must give a plug to Fisher & Paykel customer service ..... I sent off an email via their web site last night just before I posted here. I received a reply back at 9.31 am the next morning which was a polite reply from a person, not just a standard reply. They mentioned that the error code was related to the pump (as suggested above) and that I should contact the service agent (details were given).

I was rather pleased with this level of service, perhaps it would have been standard from most companies years ago but it is a rarity today.

Now I have to decide if I will make more of a mess looking at the pump or if I should call the service guy.

Do yourself a favour and check to make sure it isn't just a blocked drain filter. On my machine it was under the agitator and there were a few things to remove to get to it. Once cleared the machine was fine.

Good news .... I hope.

After reading the comments that it may be a blocked pump I emptied the machine so I could tilt it back and have a look. When tilted back there really isn't much under there in these machines ..... I found what I thought was the pump, not a conventional looking pump that I was expecting so I got the camera to take some shots to ask the forum ..... Upon righting it again I tested it and it drained ..... now I am running an empty load to see how it goes. Fingers crossed.

There seems to be quite a large buildup of soap that seems to have formed a wax like coating on a number of items, such as the wing nut that holds the agitator. I wouldn't be surprised if some of this was blocking the pump.

Is there anything (like the old Drano) that I can put through to wash off this wax like buildup? I have just tried hot water on the wing nut but it doesn't seem to budge it.

Have had to take out the wing nut and agitator from ours for the same waxy buildup - an absolute mongrel bi**h to remove - tried lots of cleaners and brushes etc - final solution was the Karcher pressure spray [carefully].
When finally cleaned reassembled and now we run a cup of vinegar every second week - not sure if this wasn't the real cause - we now no longer use that softner cr*p - this I suspect was the major culprit.
It has not been all that long since I did it but it appears to be much better - I'm keeping an eye on it.

Your suspicions are correct , it is the fabric softener causing that waxy buildup.
Instead of using fabric softener use white vinegar instead. Your clothes will not smell of vinegar, they are just as soft and the machine stays nice and clean. Another bonus is that white vinegar is a lot cheaper than fabric softener. We have been using vinegar for over 12 months now with no problems.

You can buy cleaning vinegar which is much cheaper than the culinary variety, at the supermarket.

GWL10 not spinning

I have a gwl10. that is not spinning dry and clothes in the very bottom are wet. I tried to get in fault mode but not sure how. power on I hold the spin up/down button but nothing happens.

Does your swmbo wear under wire bras?They have a a bad habit of letting the wire go ,result one blocked pump!:wink:

Well, its now been a little over 12 months and I've just had a look down the "hole" where the detergent and formally the softener used to go.

Result == clean as the proverbial whistle - no waxy build up or any other stuff - just clean.

We did take the Sprog's advice -

"Instead of using fabric softener use white vinegar instead. Your clothes will not smell of vinegar, they are just as soft and the machine stays nice and clean."

and he is spot on.

been there and done that myself not too long ago and what I learned from it .....fancy timers and gadgits dont wash or dry your clothes any quicker ...one small power spike and the chipset is fried .....replacement cost ? almost as much as you paid for the machine...including labour/gst etc
best time to buy them....end of june ...and if you shop around and negotiate a package deal .....washer and drier etc
I usually go into david jones ....pick out the one I want and ask for discount ...when told " there isnt much markup on white goods xxxx is the best I can do"...I then say ....well I am here to buy xxxxxxxxx....so maybe you could sharpen your pencil a bit more and make a sale ....or I go into myers and they get my business ...either way I am going to leave happy and with a machine today!:U

it has not failed yet ....I get the machine at a good price, delivery fee of $50 waived .....and delivered that afternoon
