Milestones on the path of life

You all pass them, milestones along life's wonderful, and sometimes rocky road. There aren't that many but they are there.

Your 1st birthday
18th birthday
the day you got your driver's licence,
first real job
loss of virginity (not necessarily in this order :))
engagement
marriage
your first child
40th birthday
divorce (:))
2nd marriage
50th birthday

That's all I was up to until today. Today was a big one. I didn't even realize I'd passed it until I was on the way home. It's almost a gate which we pass through and head down the road toward retirement, old age, senility, and the rest of the good stuff waiting for us all. Today, I commenced down that path, trod by so many before me. I went out and bought a pair of slippers :(

Gumby, you've got it all wrong. As a recent initiate to the final of the aforementioned steps, may I point out the you may now claim ALL actions declared by the great unwashed as unsociable, unmentionable or just plain bad practice, as a result of WOODSHEIMER'S DISIEASE ;)

Yous dont know what your missing out on. Hush puppies are the ultimate for winter days in the workshop;)

Yep, warm 'boots' in winter.

And stuff the Code of Practice for the shed.... I'll even wear a scarf if its that bloody cold.:D

However lacking in couth, I just add socks to my deck shoe tootsie warmers. I must admit though that if I step on a stray screw that's fallen on the floor, I can tell if it's a #6 or #8 when I stand on it :o

Not if the trackie dacks go over the top of the boots, old mate ;)

Moccies out west are the prefered footware for all occasions. If they have a good win at the dogs they will lash out and get some full length uggies (lace up of course) But never Hush puppies... to toffie;)

Am I the only silly fool who wears lace up S/caps in the workshop?
(which I might add the toes are the correct height as a prop for long bits of wood while cutting with my CMS on the floor!)

I wear my steelcaps everywhere!

I discovered how comfy they were when they inadvertently got packed for our Europe trip, and I lived in them for about 16 days. Of course, it meant body cavity searches every time I set off the metal detectors ...

Since then, my Blundstones are footwear of choice, and they see far more time in the office at work than in the shed. I even keep them shiny:o

Redbacks for me. Comfortable straight out of the box and you can walk on tin roofs in them.

yep, redbacks for me too, blunnies used to be my favourite but redbacks walk all over them comfort and traction wise

Steel Blues for me, I wear them pretty much all day, most days. The most comfortable footwear I've ever worn, bar none. The newest ones have polycarbonate rather than steel caps (still meet/exceed the relevant standards) making them lighter and more comfortable still. Grip on roofs is better than the old Dunlop volleys. They even come with a comfort guarantee - if you find a properly sized pair uncomfortable you simply return them for a refund.
(Usual disclaimer- no affiliation to company, but I wouldn't mind a commission for all the people I've getten to wear them:rolleyes: )

Hmm... how do the poly caps go with the cold? I've worn the toes out on the ol' steel-caps and if I'm gonna replace 'em, I may as well look for something that doesn't act like a 'frig on cold days. I hate putting 'em on first thing in the morning. It's a bit awkward trying to look macho as you walk past the ladies while your toes are doing their best shrinking testicle imitation, trying to crawl back into the warm... :rolleyes:

I'm struggling a bit with this, mate. While I sympathise with your plight (cold tootsies are never a happy experience) I'm having difficulty visualising your description. :confused:

I mean, if your toes are trying to emulate what happens to your tackle in cold weather, they'd be crawling back somewhere north of their normal location, wouldn't they? And that means you'd be shuffling past the ladies on your knees with your feet apparently tucked up your chuff. :rolleyes:

You're right, looking macho in those circumstances would be a tough call. ;)

I'm trying to work out how the Code of Practice might help in these difficult circumstances.

:o I have actually been contemplating the Hush Puppy route:rolleyes:, must be an age thing...the soft shoes after a day in steel caps, but still warm and reasonably safe for a night in the shed. Ugg boots belong in the house!!

I was thinking he's not drinking enough, because if he was drunk, he would be staggering up the middle of the road like I do on my way home from the pub on Friday night, instead of walking up the soft shoulder and tripping over milestones. :p

I was working on the theory that if I drank enough I woouldn't feel as much pain...... dint wurk!
