ADSL 1500/512
After 12 years on dial-up, these past 2 years on BB have been sensational.
The speed is great but being 'always on', BB is sooooo much more convenient. I use an on-line TV guide in preference to printed ones because the schedules change so frequently and the ability to be able to look up some information when I want to rather than wait until the next time I'm on-line or make a special call which is what I had to do with dial-up is terrific.
BTW, I'm with Internode. They're not the cheapest but I can't fault their reliability for the 16 months that I've been with them.
Just had our plan updated to 3mbit DSL (was 256mb).
Way cool :D
Now they just need to work on the price :(
DSL with a decent router is the only way to go if you can get it. 4 PCs online and still have a phone
Cheers
Ian
In Melbourne
Just changed from T****ra on same speed (1500/256)
Actual speed withT****ra was about 800/65 (ish)
New ISP (Internode) is 1300/220 (ish)
Also, Internode provide service - which is a very pleasant change.
Oh yeah, Internode is $40 per month cheaper.
Up yours T****ra - Free at last!
Did I mention I have 10hours free dial up if I travel? T****ra wanted $5 an hour for that.
I am still sticking with dial up.
Slow yes but thats ok. I generally watch tv at the same time as surfing the net due to the laptop.
I don't care that I tie up the phone line as I am not interested in talking to anybody.
Cheap, unlimited downloads, unlimited time and no boot off.
Antisocial mongrel!:D ;)Quote:

I am on two way satellite 256/64 with HBis Subsidy. I'm 18 klms from the exchange to far for ADSL and not available at my exchange anyway. I have been told that it may be available soon.
Then I will have a redundant satellite dish and modem as I will own them at the end of July as it comes out of contract.
we have a very pi%%Y dial up connection and i dislike it BUT our exchange has just been updated and we can get adsl .....yippee beats the 28k8 phone connection we have atm .... cheers jules
I have a cheep dial up , as a back up and a free wireless broadband from the neighbour, His son's company supply it to him for free and he connected me up.
Its good to have good neighbours, at least on one boundrary.
First month of DoDo 512/128 with 25Gb limit for $49.90 pm.
After dialup, it is great :D :D :D :D
Bet I want more speed before too much longer though:rolleyes:
Got Optus cable and gotta say, very happy. One restart of the router in two years. Got 4 PC's connected never run into D/L limit or bandwidth problems.
Glenn
Not too sure what mine is, but it seems to involve a lot of pigeons flying backwards and forwards carrying messages

Yeah!! :rolleyes:Quote:

Then I'm dumping my my landline service. :p:p:p:p:p
i have a very slow dialup. 34.6kbps. hate it . will get broadband soon. (hopefully if the war office will let me)

Optus Unlimited, of which I oft times exceed the "unlimited" limits. I've had no cause for complaints in the last 12 months... indeed it's so damned fast & useful that I've already almost forgotten the trials'n'tribulations of dial-up over the last decade or so.
Anyone remember 1200/75 baud modems? Come to that, anyone want to buy some? Going cheap! :D
The box says ADSL.
All I know is I get an alleged 1Mb/s (and it's not really slow that often, even though most of it's traffic is out of country) and it costs us about $80 per month, including the phone bill and equipment rental and everything else. Throw in about 30 mins of international phone calls into that bill while yer there too.
It's never been 'off' in about 3 years since we have had it. Pretty happy with it all actually. :)
Got a friend that lives out in the sticks here (take that as you will) who has 'cable' as they call it. Cable TV is free with the internet, which is good because you sure as heck would have trouble paying for it...
Fastest peak download speed he has seen was faster than his hardrives, can't recall the exact figure.
And he is running a dual AMD processor thingy, so don't be thinking his hardrives are what you would call slow. The perks of making websites for a crust I guess. :D
I'm jealous.:D :DQuote:

I've been on cable since 00, originally with Optus, then Telstra (Optus are a bunch of dills to deal with) and I will only change once ADSL can offer 50Mb/sec (genuinely, not the headline number). I'm really hoping that Telstra bite the bullet and upgrade their cable network to DOCSIS 2.0, as that will give me a true 30Mb/sec d/l, not that I do all that much D/L anymore, rarely going over about 3GB a month out of my 10, but it's nice to have it when you want it.
Bazza.
I'm on Hibis V sat Bordernet. 251/64 $59.50 a month.for 1000mb d/L
And is very inconsistant on speeds.
Who is your server ?
My 18 mnths contract ends next month.
i can not even use voip !!
May be your People Are better than my lot.
Info appreciated.
I also have Hibis vSat (dual band satellite) with bordernet 512/128 $69 a month.
It's my only option living 36k's out of Albany, there is talk of wireless in the area but I hear there are restrictions on that.
I can't really complain about the service, but the 1000meg limit is miserly and I often go over it. My speed doesn't seem to fluctuate much either.
Cheers
Dave
I've still got my 1200 baud Netcomm modem. Its propping up the short leg on my dining room table.:D :DQuote:

ADSL B/Band 12gig 1500/256 Iprimus + anti-spam.
Optus cable, no T*****A :D , with 3 computers on the home network, no upload limit, 13 gig monthly peak times down load limit and a bonus of 12 gig ofpeak down load limit for $ 69 a month.
If we exceed this it reverts to to dial up speed without any extra charge. This usually happens on the last 2 days of the month.:(
Peter.
Every couple of weeks I get a call from Optus with some fantastic offer if I switch to Optus Broadand. I reckon I've told them a million times that Optus don't provide a broadband service to Tasmania. You'd think they'd know what services they provide and where they provide them wouldn't you. Dills.
How do you expect poor ol Goupter to know whats going on and where you live??Quote:

When broadband comes in (October 2005 was promised:o ) I will go for the $89 package which includes capped phone calls anywhere and to telstra mobiles.
Internode.on.net 256kb 15gb download limit
Wireless distribution through house and neighbours :D
Excellent.
Free Internet radio and downloads (tucows.com)
Also about to move to VoIP through Internode , which by my calcs will drop our phone bill by about $60/70 month. BIL does it with a wireless handset - V.Effective.
Postscript: For Internode users look for mum.exe its a small online download monitor which is excellent.
Broadband (1500) here and very happy with it, although I get through my forum browsing too quick now and find i have nothing to do
broadband, 512 with iinet plus voip. Pretty happy with it, most local calls are between the missuses mum and sister who are also on iinet with voip so those calls are free.

Our isdn internet account cost would be ok but telstra slugs us extra for having 2 phone lines over 1 pair of wires.
Phooey, only need that for the internet connection as ordinary dialup here is very flaky and unreliable. Whick I reckon is due in part at least from substandard cables that run along farm fences or just lie on top of the ground.
If we have a couple of wet days even the isdn slows down, last night it was barely useable.
Telstra....Quote:
