High blood pressure

Welcome back viewer.

I went to the Doc's today as I felt my heart was pounding away a litle too much all the time.
Ive had a stress filled coupla months, so I thought Id better see about it.

I had a pressure test and the Doc said its a little high but nothing to worry about.

She then prescribed some pills to take.
When I got them home and read the leaflet that came with them I decided no way HoseB.

Here are the side effects of taking the drugs.......:eek:

I know, give me a lecture.:o

Almost forgot, The packet says take in the morning, and may affect, ability to drive, coordination, mental alertness. :eek:
All the things I need to function as a brickie.

Personally, I prefer a nice glass of red (or of a decent single malt) to calm myself down.:rolleyes:

Where I work, stress isn't an option, it's a condition of employment :eek:

Try the meds anyway, mate - you might be in the 90% unaffected...;)

Well since Ive been to the Docs and found out its nothing serious Ive been fine, I knew I was, but I just wanted reassurence I suppose. :)

Long or possibly short term side effect/s after not taking them pills. when prescribed and adviced by a doctor.

Who listenings to Dr's they just higly trained professionals, what would they know.

The best cure for high blood pressure and stress is an aeroplane ride.
Preferably for a long visit, and to somewhere in Asia.
Hanoi is a good choice.
Once you get there, the only stress you'l get, is having to go back home.

Al,, you big girly handbag, DON'T listen to some half wit who tells you can fix high blood pressure in your head, he obviously has some vital components missing in his! If you are wary of taking whatever medication the Doctor has prescribed then go and talk to your Pharmacist as they knoiw even more about the actual drugs usually than the Doctor. Drugs and their effects and interactions are what the Pharmacist is all about. To throw them in the bin because of the silly list which has every possible symptom that has been reported as MAY E being associated with that particular drug is irresponsible and possibly dangerous to your health.
Al, talk to the Chemist and then take your meddy like a big boy!

Its not mind over matter.

If your bp's even just a bit high you run the risk of stroke or heart attack etc. Heart attack might or might not kill you.
A stroke can leave you paralyzed and incapacitated.

Take yer pills,
if they cause problems go back to quack and change to different pills.

The only way you might safely avoid pills is to totally change your lifestyle and especially your diet and what you eat and drink and browse on.

Bob's right Al take your tablets. I have had two cardio vascular incidents and have high blood pressure I take my tablets wouldn't be here if I didn't. Don't be a BLOODY IDIOT.

Like I said boys and girls, it is only ever so slightly high, not a bit, just slightly.

I think the Doc was trying to be seen to do the right thing.

The other thing that #### me about the pills is the little red sticker on the box that states........this medicine may affect mental alertness adn/or co-ordination, do not drive or operate machinery.

Dont drive, hmm how do I get to work.
Affects co-ordination, sort of defeats me going to work as its all co-ordination in bricklaying.

If I drop off the perch its been nice knowing you all....

It's a scam Al. :rolleyes: Doctors & Pharmacists & Drug companies are all in it up to there collective ears.

Al, if the pills you are on have side effects that make your life difficult, see your doctor about changing to another type. there are heaps of different pills out there that lower teh blood pressure, with different side effects. i had to change mine once because of an undesireable side effect, and the ones i take now do nothing but control my blood pressure.

Cliff, for a lot of modern medicine you are probably right but blood pressure tablets do lower blood pressure and my wife would probably be alive today if she had taken hers.

Onya Al! ;) Doc suggested to me the other day I take a well known over the counter pain killer for an injury that's giving me a lot of grief. Was prescribed the same stuff years ago and when I read the side effects it went straight in the trash can ... wasn't having my kidneys screwed up! So Doc got told in no uncertain terms where he could put his suggested medication! :eek: :D

What people forget is that the guy that just scrapes through in Medical school is still called - Doctor.:eek:

If you can lower your BP by a change in lifestyle, and possibly diet then that is better than simply popping a pill.

Yeah Al, you're special, just the same as all those before you who said " bluddy Ducturs wadda they nose" knew too (It sux don't it, both my Grandads did it and my old next door neighbour, all died as a result, far too early IMHO, interestingly enough all dyed in the wool tradies too).
You once gave us advice to mix dishwashing detergent in our mortar mix, side effects could have been disgusting, but I used it anyway, and the brick wall stands to this day, why?...........because I took the advice of a professional who did his time and specailises in this field:rolleyes: .

I'm not sure what you are getting a grip on there, but leaving that alone it is in your head a bit. Mind you there is a lot more room in some heads than others when it comes to these things.

I controlled mine for close to 20 years with diet, exercise, and the right attitude seemed to help. In the end it got the better of me but the pills are better than the stroke or heart attack. You've got to weigh up which comes first the killer side effects, or the killer stroke, I've opted for the side effects.

I'd give the lifestyle a shot first but get yourself checked often enough to find out if it's working or not. But in the end its your funeral:cool:, although it doesn't sound as if your levels are anything to get to steamed up about just yet.
