Just tried to use one of the extra smilies. The instructions say to copy and paste - I couldn't get that to work. Some change in the system? Something I'm doing wrong? Neil's latest effort to restrict us to the standards  :D

Richard
I can not copy/paste either.
Might be a security setting on my PC though????
https://www.ubeaut.biz/homer.gif Doh. It did work.
Can't help you then
Where are we supposed to find these extra smilies?
Well, it's still not working for me and I tried the same smilie you used Stuart.
Richard https://www.ubeaut.biz/homer.gif
Sorry couldnt help it......Al

Okay, we click on the link that Al just gave us (which happens to be where I was going earlier). We get a page full of smilies. You're supposed to right click on a smilie and select copy. That works as advertised. BUT, go back to the post, the wee screen where I'm typing this gibberish, and I can NOT paste the smilie is - probably because I've copied an image and this is a text box. So, what's the solution? (eg, I'm doing wrong  )
Richard
BTW, it'd be a lot easier if you didn't have to go looking for that other page in a seperate browser window to use it. Most forums, including ones using the same software as this one, have a 'more' button under the standard smilies. This opens a new window and you select the smilie by simply clicking on it, just like the standard ones work. It'd not only be easier to use but it would encourage people to use them rather than try to use external ones which Neil doesn't like
Here's a thought for Stuart and Al. Are you blokes using Firefox? Could this be a browser issue?
Richard
I'm using Firefox with no problems. Instead of right clicking try highlighting, then right click and copy.
https://www.ubeaut.biz/woohoo.gifWorks for me. But make sure you use copy not copy image in firefix!
Now that you have copied it, click where you want it and "Ctrl V"Quote:

Ctrl x = cut from text or whatever, and you can still paste it back where ever you want it.
Ctrl c = copy
Ctrl v = paste.
Took me freekin ages to work that lot out.
Al :o
I'm thinkin' maybe you need to have the enhanced editor mode enabled, not standard or wotever. https://www.ubeaut.biz/spam3.gif
Nah, it should work in whatever mode.Quote:

Yeppidiy do dah, I just changed to the standard editor mode, can't git it to paste in here.
Hope it helps.
Same here.
Looks like Outback has solved the mystery of the decade.
Owwrah for Outback Owwrah at last.........
Al :D
Well I'm stuffed if I can get it to work, Firefox.:(
Looks like it is easy for some and not for others.

Still not sure if DanP was calling me a wanker or not.
I'm switching to Firefox, so that I too can get stuffed. https://www.ubeaut.biz/woohoo.gifQuote:

Thanks 'outback'
I just went to
User CP - Edit Options - Miscellaneous Options - Message Editor Interface: and selected 'Advanced interface' and the smilies work.
https://www.ubeaut.biz/claps.gif to 'outback'
Thanks for spelling that out David.
Minor edit: Advanced Interface should read Enhanced interface.
Here goes nothing:................ https://www.ubeaut.biz/waving.gif
Edit: Crap, still not working. Must be Firefox, &/or my settings.
Cheers..................Sean

Right. Changing to enhanced editor mode worked - something to add to the page of smilies https://www.ubeaut.biz/biggrinsanta.gif
Now all we need is an easier way of getting to them. Either a link in the smilies section OR a link to the smilies page shown on the 'reply to' page.
Of course, Neil might be encouraging us not to use the damned things at all which, if the truth be known, is probably what I'll be doing.
Richard
Perhaps you https://www.ubeaut.biz/oldman.gif are too https://www.ubeaut.biz/toothless.gif to work out how to use https://www.ubeaut.biz/awink.gif?
Stop https://www.ubeaut.biz/box.gif and looking at Doug's https://www.ubeaut.biz/boobies.gif and get back to
https://www.ubeaut.biz/devil-smiley-020.gif tool :D
Just kidding guys - hope you have it worked out.
Since the last (or one of 'em) CTRL-X just doesn't work for me at all on the Smilies page. Anywhere else 'tis fine, it's just the extra smilies page that gives me grief. Go figure!
I highlight the icon, hit CTRL-X and... nothing. Checking the clipboard buffer shows nada, nothing, zip. It will not copy the icons' link for some reason. I have to either CTRL-X the icons' URL from the URL bar (when I use IE6) or RMB and choose "copy image location" (or CTRL-O) in firefox.
Then CTRL-Y works as expected...
https://www.ubeaut.biz/approval.gif GOT IT! Did the enhanced thinghttps://www.ubeaut.biz/bum.gif
But you cant ( CTRL-X ) CUT from the smilies page, if you could, there would be nothing left for the rest of us.Quote:

Well I've gone enhanced, still won't work, so stuff em. https://www.ubeaut.biz/FLIPA.gif
I meant CTRL-C... that'll teach me to choose red with the chicken. :rolleyes:Quote:

Might be them preservatives having a play.

Bad news Richard, as a gout sufferer, red wine is one of those things prone to set off an attack. https://www.ubeaut.biz/grrr.gif
If you have any other symptoms, you might want to get those ?puric acid? levels checked. If it is gout, then you can use the medication to keep it under control, while drinking the red to your heart's content https://www.ubeaut.biz/tequila.gif
https://www.ubeaut.biz/beersmiley.gif
After all - gout is another form of arthritis, which can be bought on by diet....such as red wine. https://www.ubeaut.biz/fireface.gif
The term 'bugga' springs to mind. Ah well, I gotta see the doc in the next week or two anyway.
Richard
Hope I'm wrong - not known to be able to diagnose medical problems from afar, but I'm male, an engineer, and so think I know something about everything!
As a test, get a bottle of good red, not a $5 bottle, $15 to $20 range will do, & try that & see if your joints hurt.... worth a try; almost as scientific as going to the doc & then forking out for pathology tests.
When I first started in the open cuts, my foreman had serious gout problems. However he swore black & blue that a couple of good stouts alleviated it.
I've always wondered... does it really? Or is it just one of those "get comfortably numb" things?
