Maybe it time for a reset to zero.
That way, the "old" hands would have to regain their rep status, after all its all in fun.
This would of course involve Mods and Admin.
Asbestos suit on.

I don't know about a reset but I find it interesting that it no longer takes much to get 12 bars on your rep bar.
Besides if you reset all the rep all of the reddies would be gone too!:D
I will keep mine thank you very much but would like to see yours back to zero.
Another forum that I have been to have rep points as well but instead of the amount of rep points that you give being tied to how many points you have, Everyone gives the same number of points when they hand out a greenie (or a reddie).
Maybe that is an option?
the only thing i'd like to see is a new system where people are given rep points for humor called the *@&#wit factor for all the comedians round here:p
you could have 2 bars for reps one being for fairdinkum feedback from peers following the principles of the forum rulz n guidelines;)
and the other could be for being a funny #$%^ that way the next time your cash flows on the mend ya can apply for membership to the comedians hall of fame or book ya self into the melbourne comedy festival
there!!

Well I reckon that the rep point system is just a bit of fun, however, I think it's far too easy to get six light greens.
I reckon that you shouldn't be entitled to a 6th light until you have, say, 20,000
points. :p
How about 1 green light for every 5000 points. That'll separate the men from the boys. Or in Al's case from the goat.
i'm only at 1000 odd, so i gots to catch up even more then:( .Quote:

Yeah that works for me.Quote:

I think its a great source of fun on the forum if everyone has a good attitude towards it. HOWEVER, since i joined, it seems that some people have gained so much reputation altering potential that it gets rediculous.
a rank newbie can now say something remotely funny and four or five forum leaders give them one greenie each and they have all the lights on.
From my recollection it takes 1500 points to turn on all the light green lights. why not make that 15,000 points? with the current forum stats that will leave a better gradient of points if the points level required to reach each little green block is adjusted proportionately
Anyway, the post i got my most greenies for http://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ad.php?t=28193
was meant to be a distraction from the carp that was going on in the forum at the time. i got nine greenies for it which was not what i was trying to achieve but why did all these other members accuse me of fishing for greenies when all i was trying to do was make light of a tense situation occurring in the forum at the time. those who sent me reddies - i know who you arehttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon10.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon10.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon10.gifexpect it when you least expect it. you have been warned.
//rant mode off// back to the problem, the reputation system has definitely evolved to the stage that it needs some revision. there have been many times that i have thought of giving someone a reddie but i know that my reddies hit quite hard (yeah ok, nowhere near as hard as ozwinner's). if when i call up the reputation window i had the option to send a "part" greenie or reddie, eg, 1/4, 1/2, or other fraction of my total hitting power, i would be more inclined to express my opinions of the posts of others. from where i sitnow im often reluctant to send a greenie or reddie because its just my opinion andi feel my hitting power is well above the level that one persons opinion should make.
Summary of recommendations:
make the levels for green lights and changes of reputation message displayed by clicking on rep bar higher by a factor of 1500 = 15000 inthe new assessment.
allow members to post "partial" greenies and reddies so that they dont always hit the receiver with the full potential of the sender
I dont think it would be possible, I would think reps are either on, or off.Quote:

I thought it was the Home for Sexually Abused Goats. It was the Bewildered Goats until Al got there.Quote:

I think a recalibration of the greenie scale is in order. I just checked the members list sorted by rep point, and there's about 170 people with all the green lights. We should either re-scale the point value or allow more green lights.
I don't care one way or another. I just like handing them out to say "job well done", and don't understand the rules anyway.

Groggy my new mate, i think you have hit the nail on the head, to use a woodworking euphemism. let the greenies fall off the back after 12 months, but i suppose then we have to let the reddies do the same, unfortunately. it would still encourage people to make positive posts as it does now, except for the uninitiated (yes i know thats not how you spell idiot). yes i think a 12 month shelf life would workhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifhttp://www.woodworkforums.ubeaut.com...ons/icon14.gifQuote:

Just because someone is not as active as they once were doesn't mean there input or reputation is diminished.Quote:

By the same token, if someone gets a batch of reddies for a one-off rant that doesn't mean they don't know zip about ww'ing either.Quote:

The shelf-life, as Doug dubbed it, is only an idea. Speaking for myself only, I see the large amount of users with full-greenie status as an indicator of health for the BB. It means there is a large body of constant participants out there.
Get rid of them completely as they have nothing to do with wood work reputation or ability.
If kept, they should be renamed "BS points". :D :p
You seem to have your fair share....
I agree Zenwood.Quote:

Seriously people, do you have any idea how many cat jokes I had to make to get 25,000 point? :D Don’t take it away from me please.
Wongo, I would love to give you one man, a greenie that is, but my greenie giver has melted.
I have been giving out greenies to Ian007's thread.
See my sig.
Now I have to wait 24 hours before I have the power again.
Al :)
i'm around the 245-250 mark of leading points people and i thought that was a bit high. theres only about 275 people out of 9000 odd over 1000 rep points so there ain't all that many people with 3 or more bright greenies.
A lot of ppl have 1 post then leave.
Some never leave. :p
Al :D
did you also notice (alfabetically) that the 1st four or so have no posts... also many others..... :confused:Quote:
