I've got to buy another toaster because I'm turning the toast twice to get it done and it's a real pain in the rectum. (No, I'm not sitting on it. The toaster that is.) Has someone invented a toaster that doesn't require the toast to be turned at least once? :D
I've got a Sunbeam Pop Up.
Best thing for sliced bread since sliced bread. :D
We got a Tefal pop up that does it evenly after all the crap toasters we had that had a mind of their own.
Has functions for frozen bread, keep warm and a manual ejector for the little things that get stuck in the middle.
Cost about $120 but after all the crappy $30 units (that we had and didn't work properly) this one looks like it will stay for a while.
whatever you get, it has to be wide enough for crumpets..... :)
get a four slice toaster thats also wide enough fro crumpets...
Ours is a Russel Hobbs (or something along those lines)

The Tefal has a spring loaded receiver that accepts anything from a nice piece of crumpet ;) to the thinnest slice of bread.
I hate toasters. We've been through some of the "you beaut" expensive ones and they never seem to last or for that matter to do what they're meant to. Now, we wait for Woollies to have their "two appliances for 14.95 each" sale and buy a spare, then throw the buggers away when they start to muck up (this one's been on line for 6 months now) Saves money in the long run and ther'es nothing more satisfying than throwing the rotten things in the river:D
My Tefal is used every day and has been for three years now, no problems, maybe you should approach GMC..............
Things we looked for in the last toaster
elements covered so can't be touched by wayward metal objects in the hands of adult/child (even though we do have safety switches).
cold outside so plastic bread bags don't stick
big enough for crumpets :)
ended up with a Sunbeam, made in Oz (so it was a while ago), one long slot that has been good at toasting slices of bread roll. Works OK, not the most even toasting (tends to cook the centre more than edges) but predictable behaviour and still going!
The elements are glass covered tubes with reflectors .. kind of like mini radiators.
reminds me of a family holiday where there were limited cooking facilities and the 3 of us children got quite good at producing toast on the strip heaters on the wall of the room!
Can't go past the green eucalypt fork stabbed into the bread then held over a blazing fire, frost still covering the tent, mist rising off the river and the first fish of the day filleted ready for breakfast. :D
note: coals give more even toast but aren't as warming on a freezing morning.

seems to me that crumpets are going to overtake pancakes in these forums. Lets have a poll......crumpets or pancakes.

I have to agree with you there Richard, but YOU must agree it IS quicker to drop a couple slices in the pop-up & plug the electric kettle in for coffee at the same time rather than go outside in the cold & light a fire.....:rolleyes:Quote:

Anything has got to be better than the one I have. I always knew when the toast was ready because I could hear the toast hit the floor. It had the most efficient ejection system I have ever seen.
I don't want to get drawn on this topic otherwise I'll get upset about that usless POC fr**gin pile of Sunbeam sh## in our kitchen that masquerades as a f**gin *#!!*& toaster that cost us ninety F$**#!!! dollars and aint worth two ***#!! bob.:mad: :mad: :mad: :mad:

Funny thing..went out for dinner last night then over to friends place after for coffee and more wine/scotch etc. I noticed in the kitchen they had the same SS 4 slice Sunbeam toaster we have. Ever since we got a Sunbeam Cafe style sandwich press (thanks to fly buy points :) ) the toaster has been pushed to the back of one of the cupboards. We use it for toast, toasted sandwiches, omelettes and grilling chicken and fish. Does it all really well :) If your're worried about your omelette or toast ending up too flat it's a simple matter of slipping a vegemite jar under the handle to support the weight.

Check out the RHS of the handle, it may have a sliding arrangement which limits how far it can close, preventing the compression ;) . Releases the Vege to put a rose in every cheek :) .
