Hi to you all,
The Windscreen & side windows have been cleaned???, with Windex, by Previous Owner.
Question is : How to I get this rotten stuff off.
Tried, Metho & Newspaper. Turps with rag, Potato, Vinegar, then washed, & so on.
Nothing works, so therefore I have a very smuggey shocking Windscreen to try & see through, from both sides.
Have not tried Lemon yet.
Does anyone know of a remover.
Yeah I know, get a new windscreen.
I have to have a better screen to see through.
Clean rag + hot water. I was going to suggest metho, never fails for me, however you've already suggested that.
I have never had an issue with Windex so I can't see it being the problem. The usual problem is that it has been so long since the windows were cleaned the Windex does not take it all off. Try a damp chamois or micro fibre cloth but I prefer the chamois for best results and is all I ever use these days.
Not that Rain X stuff by any chance???
If it is Rain X I would say lighter fluid in a rag. Just make sure its not in the washer bottle otherwise it becomes a problem every time you spray the windscreen. I've had that problem before :C
use your 0000 steel wool.
Thats what the car detailers use.

Peter, I will give the oooo a try, might even use it with Lemon.
It's just disgusting to see this screen, & as I said it is on the inside as well.
The Side Windows, on the inside are coated with the Film to make it a bit easier on the eyes. Yes, I think that stuff is on them too, so, I can't touch them.

Ajax or Bon Ami (can you still buy it?). Put it on wet and then buff off when dry.

It was suggested to me to get some Amourall Glass Wipes, as that wood most certainly get the Windex off, Wrong, as it did not even look at it.
Fly said, use oooo Steel Wool, as this is what the Detailers use, Beauddyy. real easy to use dry, then used those wipes.
So Now I have a CRYSTAL CLEAN WINDSCREEN.

What I don't understand is I use Windex all the time and have no issues.

Maybe it depends on the brand or maybe an old story that never died. The formula may have changed. I know they say not to use ammonia products on tint.

I complained back in Nov. 2013, that I was unable to clean my Windscreen inside the Wagon.
Tried again myself, disastrous ???.\
Went to see a car Detailer as a last resort.
Young Chap, & 4 Ladies working flat chat on 2 cars.
Told him my troubles. Reversed, so the sun shone on the Screen. " See what you mean "
With a Squeeze Bottle & a piece of rag, he got into it, & dried as he went.
Absolutely Marvelous. Asked what was he using. " Trade Secret, says he." At last I can see through a CLEAN WINDSCREEN.
Asked what cost, " A good handshake says he ".

I've been following this thread and thinking the same might work on the shower screens in this place - it's a rental and I think I'm the first tenant to give a damn.
Anyway, where do you get 0000 steel wool, looked in Woolies, they had Steelo but it had no rating.
From where I live it's a 50k round trip to a major shopping centre so going from shop to shop is something I try to avoid.

Sturdee, the nearest Bunnings for us is a 50k round trip - we have a no name hardware which is expensive and a Mitre10 which is known as Mitre5 cos they only ever have half of what you need.
Lewis ..... I'm glad to read that this post was about an issue with the windows in your van ..... For a moment I thought you were going to be asking for help with Windows 95 :)
For shower screens, I suggest either Shower Power Amazing Bathroom Cleaner or Easy-Off BAM (in the pump pack, not aerosol) and a green nylon scour.
The first has a nicer smell, so it's my preferred treatment. It seems to be a mix of D-limoline and citric acid.
The second's main ingredient is sulphamic acid - seems to work just as well, but has a more chemical smell. Might be better as an initial 'oh god this is so disgusting' treatment.
Don't knock W95, it was one of the better ones - I only changed from 95 when I built a P4 box, then ran Win2k for years until I needed google sketchup, and finally changed to Win7 in 2011 when I wanted more than 3gig of ram.Quote:
