I would like to give a short demonstration on Swann-Morton carbon steel surgical blades size number 11 and the appropriate holder for the use of the above mentioned blades . PLEASE OBSERVE THE FOLLING TWO PICTURES!!!!!! And that about sums up for the demonstration for today :(

I have used the same equipment as you have in the 1st. Photo.
What I did was to put a Wooden Handle on the Metal Blade Holder.
Therefore it was a bit larger, & easier to hang onto.
I went to the Melbourne Camberwell Sunday Market some time ago & bought a box of used blades ( which were clean ) for the HUGE SUM of $5. It was ¾ full.
I'm not sure which sizes they are but they do come in very handy at times.
I do a small amount of Carving.
You sure have to be careful, removing the Blade, to put another one on.
Ah, yes. In a past life, Feather handles and #11 blades were my carving tools of choice. Either by accident or by design, they do work well.
I once slipped and put a #11 blade into my wrist. Interesting times when I next to work. At the time I was working with vulnerable young people, who at times would cut their wrists. :B:o:doh:
Just imagine what you can do to your hands with a 5/35 gouge in carving-sharp condition. That's a modest #5 curve to the blade and 35mm wide.
True. It is hard to admit that you cut up children for a living. Unfortunately, I had to meet some people for whom that was the very best answer to their question about where I fit in the social order of things.
I have a few blunt ones you can have so you dont do that again :)
Quick, run to the nearest pen turner and grab some CA to glue up your finger!
When I fell through a glass door last year, after attending to the larger wounds (27 stitches in my left arm) the doc fixed up most of the puncture wounds on my head and face with steri strips and super glue. In my scalp she just twisted hair from either side of the would together and put a dob of super glue on the twisted hair.Quote:

Just from experience - it is the blunt blade which will always bite you - you tend to put more pressure on the blade to cut and when it does you easily lose control.
Love the no11 blades :2tsup: always got two going at once on the same handles as those (can't Rembrandt their name off-hand right now as they're in the office) beautifully balanced. I used to live with one always in my hand in the days of finished art and I'd have the point tucked into my thumb tip as it was the safest way to walk around the agency with that way the blade couldn't cut me - strangely enough I got more paper cuts than anything else.
Things when you cut yourself you don't notice it straight away it's only when you look at your finger that you notice the claret and feel a bit of pain.
