I'm a bit sick and tired of my tool belt which is a leather type with two larger pockets either side of a tape pouch. Suffice to say it is uncomfortable and does not fulfill my tool/fastener carrying requirements. Because the task at hand varies daily, I'm thinking of getting a bucket storage system or tool bag and reverting to just a simple tool bag on a belt to hold some fasteners, tape hammer etc.
What is your favourite setup that works for you?

I use a leather tool belt when up a ladder, when inside I just use shirt pockets and the closest flat surface.
When I take out the cameras I use a vest similar to a fly vest for batteries lenses etc etc, could that be adapted for what you want?

You could also look at Rocket @ www.rocketfilmequipment.com.au - they make a variety of belts & pouches which you can use to make up your own custom setup. Made from Cordura/nylon not leather but well made & last for years - current world standard for film crews, set builders etc.
I just borrow mums apron, or pinnie, and shove stuff in the front pouch/pocket.

Is there a regulation colour or style, or will any old frilly pinny do. I'd hate to see the frill caught in the router, swmbo would not be impressed when next doing the spuds.

I gave up on the belts after my last one broke while on the roof doing some repairs to the corrigated iron... bloody hammers hurt like buggary when the whole shootin match drops on yer bare feet on the tin roof in the middle of summer and the last thing a bloke needs is to have to do an impromptu irish jig on a hot tin roof cause his nail bag broke!! :mad: Still on the positive side it did give the neighood kids a big giggle seein "that tubby little wild haired fella dancin on the roof in his bare tootsies" :rolleyes:

The warehouse have some belts onm offer at the moment, conventional in leather, a heavy nylon belt and a heavy nylon apron.
I bought a belt for me and an apron for miss 17 to use as a farriers apron and it works well, they cost from about $8 to $12.
I replaced my older double pouched belt with a single which has 3 seperate pockets. I got it from brett's timber & hardware over windsor way. Great set up( well for me it is) as there is nothing to get snagged and plenty of room in the pockets. Good Aussie made brand by the name of Samuel's leather gear from the north coast of NSW.
Festool have a "pouch that fits in and around a bucket. More storage thatn you can sensibly use. I am sure there are less expensive versions around.
Maybe Al can sew one up for you when he next makes another frilly apron to match his spandex foiley.
Just to be different: I hate tool-belts! Been through too many crawl-spaces where they hang up as you try to back-out... and there's not enough room to unclip the bloody thing to free yourself. :o
The funny thing is that on-site it's usually only the young blokes who wear 'em, the same blokes who still take brand-new top-of-the-line tools on-site, not yet having learned to wrap 'em in duct-tape or otherwise make 'em less desirable to other tradies. :D
The one thing most blokes do wear is a tape-measure but simply clipped to their belt, no holder; they're a pain when new but soon loosen up. There is the odd exception of framers who wear a nail-bag and hammer hook, but in most other cases it's just someone who wants to "look the part..."

tool belts, Hmmm!...Nah! don't care much for them myself but like everything it would have it's place in the tool inventory, I do have one but rarely us it, I can never remember what I've put in each pocket never mind what I was up the ladder for in the first place, guess that happens as you get older!...Ha!Ha!..

My fav is one that has a centre tape measure pouch and either side that are two pouches, a small one at the front and a larger on at the back.My current nail bag is made by Tradetools. And so far is doing the job well.

What the hell are you talking about Skew, do you think we carry the stuff around in our pockets? Of course we tradies were toolbelts! The reality is however, that it's seemingly impossible to buy a decent toolbelt in Oz. The cordura stuff put out by Makita & Dewalt is not too bad, but its not built to last. I use a cordura/leather combination made by these people in America. http://www.bestbelt.com/ Built to last, wonderfully organised & if you wear them all day you wont be sorry. The bags are individual items that can move anywhere on the belt, good thing that allows for the change of clothing with the seasons. They make many different types & you can make up you're own combo. Dont go for leather its too heavy, the cordura/leather combo is the go.

In the shop I don't mind the occasional shavings in the curlies but on-site I gotta look the part... at least until we get to lock-up stage and I'm outta the public eye. ;)

Laying flooring, it's bad enough moving around between & over joists w/out being encumbered by something I don't need for the job. When framing, I use a framing gun and the chisels, etc are kept at the SCMS. When building/installing cabinetry, I work at a portable bench where almost all my tools are kept (apart from the ones other tradies "borrow") in the same way as I would at the shop/shed, except for the one or two I'm using for the job in hand. Don't need a tool belt for any of that...
Installing trim is much the same thing. The only exception I can think of is when truss climbing... and only rarely then, 'cos I'm a lazy sod and try to avoid that sort of job. :D
The sparkies & plumbers I work with are basically of the same mind. They have a couple of small, lightweight toolboxes which contain tool "sets" for specific jobs and simply take the one they'll be using on site. Everything else is left in their utes unless needed. The only time I've seen either use a pouch of any sort is when saddling, to carry the saddles/clouts/screws around while they carry a hammer/cordless drill in the other hand. That's hardly a tool belt.
Maybe you find things different, but I can't speak for you. Only from what I see. And I'll stand by what I've said... of the other tradies I work with, it's only the new blokes or transient tradies (the odd tiler, etc) who bother with 'em. [shrug]
I've got to confess Skew that I take any opportunity to remove the belt if the task allows. I suppose it all comes down to what you do, sometimes I need it, sometimes not. DAMN!!! that reminds me I'm one of the "shedless" wretches....cant wait to have workshop cause you dont need a toolbelt in there now do you?

I put on a toolbelt once.
It made me feel like a pornstar on location for a new scene.
Maybe I'll be the plumber next time.
I put a load of things for a job in one of those little plastic trays with an integrated handle - like an milkman's basket. I'm sick of loosing a hammer or a screw in the grass down the back.

Military web belts and harnesses are designed to hang a multitude of different pouches, cases,boxes etc.... off of. You could try Aussie disposal and make yourself a custom system. Just a Thought. :U

Checked out the nail bags...Which one did you end up getting....
I like the all leather single units on a seperate belt so you can move it around and replace bits when they get worn...Do you know anyone who wears them in for you cause i don't know if i like the idea of wearing a new one as mines only my second and 13 years old....
Where did you get yours from or did you use one of there internet suppliers....
