Other than being the birth place of Wil Anderson, what has Sale got going for it?
A very spiffy control system for the water treatment plant. :U (Even if i do say so myself although I put it in quite a few years ago.)
Water fact for the day: - The drinking water that is pumped out of the bores at Sale, fell as rain in the Dandenongs over 400 years ago.
Sorry WW, nothing else of interest comes to mind about Sale. :no:

It has friendly people, an Air Force Base; home to the Roullettes Aerobatic Display Team and the Officer Training School. There is a second hand/antiques store in a warehouse type shop that is worth a visit but not a trip for its own sake.
PS. Sale is 2 hours 42 minutes from Hoppers Crossing.

Hmm, I could be tempted to pay the place a visit. Are there any woodworking haunts, tool shops or furniture-type timber yards in the area?

Sale is a growing regional town. Overall in my limited experience it doesn't have the charm of Rosedale, Traralgon or Bairnsdale.
It all depends on what your wants and needs are. How close to the regional hospital or nursing homes you need to be when the shadows draw closer.
Blackwood and Myrtle Beech are sourced from Vic forests but the mills would be some distance from Sale. An acquaintance reports sourcing rough sawn timber relatively cheaply from mills direct but I've not bothered to quiz him about what species and from where.
I used to drive through Rosedale, Traralgon and Bairnsdale on a fortnightly basis to visit the outlaws in Paynesville and none of them projected any perceivable charm despite stopping for refreshments in all of them. Oh dear.Quote:

Sale has a good hospital, likes to think it is the gateway to the Gippsland lakes system, and there is a train service to Melbourne. There are no specialty timber stores, and tools are all in the trade range, anything from rubbish to Makita/Metabo and the likes in power and hand tools in Stanley etc price range. It has a stable economy with the two biggest employers being the RAAF and Esso/BHP, it was unlucky that the oil came in the late 1960's before we discovered heritage and had a council stacked with developers, much of what was interesting was demolished. However it does have reasonable amenities, sports facilities including a heated swimming pool, and of course those useless pokies. The shopping is OK but you wouldn't travel for it, and there is the odd eatery.
It is nice and flat (to damn flat) but great for those with their motorised scooters, three nursing homes, two aged care hostels and one independant living development for the aged. There is also a whopping great prison, but that is a different story.
The surrounding area is irrigated and dry farming with a strong dairy sector and it is not far from lakes, rivers and the slopes that lead to the great dividing range. We are better off than much of northern Victoria's farmers thank goodness.

you can PM me if you like and exchange numbers, much of the area is fairly flat and there are places such as Tinamba and Newry that tend to flood, Maffra has mainly high ground and Sale also, every town has houses on low ground that floods and we are no exception but you would be talking about only a small number.Quote:
