Well that REALLY sucked!

Got hit by a hail storm earlier. Nothing too bad - car is OK I think - but the drain in front of the workshop backed up and wound up with 2 inches of water through the whole workshop. Bugger.

Just took us 2 hours to clean it up. Now I have 3 fans and a fan heater going full tilt trying to dry everything out.

Hopefully nothing's completely buggered - bunch of turning timber got wet feet, but that will dry out OK I think. The MDF & ply was off the floor, so with a little luck that will be OK too.

Just what I needed :(

Sorry to hear that Darryl. I think the storm must have skirted us as we are only having a bit of rain just now.

Sounds like the biggest problem might be the moisture inducing rust on the tools.

Might be time to get out the jar of vaseline :eek:

I can Honestly sympaththise, until recently I had cronic flooding problems in my shed. I live on a hill face and the uphill side of the shed used to act like a dam for stormwater run off due to the severe lack of drainage provided by the previous owner.
To remedy the problem I've had to virtually dig a moat around the shed. My other half keeps asking when the draw bridge will be in. :D

BTW a glorious weekend in Adelaide bright and sunny and low twenties, fantastic for working in the garden :( .

OOOOOOHHHHHH it was a bad one alright. I live about 10 streets away from Darryl and while I didn't get any water into my workshop it was interesting to see my drive thru garage turn into a foot deep river.

When it rains, I've got a stream that runs right through the middle of my shed. It comes in the back door, cascades down the steps, runs across the floor and out under the front door. Some people pay a fortune to have a water feature installed ;)

A friend of mine is a landscape gardener. One of his clients is a TV journo who has a house on the side of a hill in north shore Sydney. Whenever it rained, a torrent of water would come down the hill and cut unsightly gouges through his lawn and gardens and leave silt and crap all over the place. So he had my friend build a waterfall at the top and a creek bed that winds it's way down through his gardens and into the gully at the bottom of his block. You can't beat nature.

Got to sympathise with you Sydney folk, if it's not fire storms it's hail storms.

Ol mother nature sure can be a winsome wench sometimes! :(

Well we had a wonderful sight greet us this morning - another flood from the overnight rain :( Only half of the workshop this time though. Bugger. Twice.

Fortunately my better half looked after the worst of today's second cleanup while I went to work. Dunno what I did to deserve her :)

It looks like it's all drying out OK, but I'm still worried about rust of course. Still got the fans & heaters on full tilt. Worst of it seems to be water stained legs on benches etc.

Well at least it cleaned out all the sawdust from under everything :)

Photograph the workshop when its cleaned up, post it on a Yankee board and tell that in Oz we WASH our floors :D

I don't really follow the AFL butI do love it when a non-Victorian team beats the Victorians at their own game. Victorians boast that AFL is the REAL Australian Game and try to promote it accross the country and then cry foul :mad: when people from another state do it better than them...

Perhaps the AFL should come up with it's own "State of Origin" It would be interesting to see how many of the stars from Victorian clubs started their careers in another state :D

As far as Footy goes (AFL that is). I want to live long enough to watch Hobart play Darwin in Birdsville for the Finals. 'Cause that is where it belongs.

I don't follow any code. Brisbane Lions? Been to Qld and lived in Kuranda once. Not at a commune either. Can't recall seeing any lions or tigers.

Lots of tourists that can't swim at the beaches because most plants and animals up there semm to want to maim or kill you. :D :D :D

Got a friend who owns a 50 acre farm, one day (recently) he decided to ring the powers that be and inquire about the fees they now ask from people who have dams on their property.

Just a bit of a 'testing the waters' type phone call, he didn't give them his name, thought he'd attempt to do the right thing.

When asked about the fee, the fellow on the other end of the phone replied that they would first send someone out to have a look at the dam to see if it was OK for them to have it, then if the dam was acceptable they would workout a figure from there!

My friend replies 'excuse me? the dam has been there for 60 years, who do you think you are.....?'

Fellow on the other end of the phone starts on with his 'We have to check if the dam is up to our environmental standards.....'

At which point my mate hangs up. :)


So, you can't win, they even charge you for catching your own water. :mad:

Heard a great one about the greens recently... they are just like a Water melon, green on the outside, and red (like communists) on the inside.

If anyone's still interested, The Bench is fine - and I got laughed at for putting three coats of Danish oil + wax on the frame :) Only damage is a bit to a couple of the other benches - no big deal, thankfully.
