May I ask if I am neglecting to do something necessary when I log-in, please, as lately I have been asked to log in three or four times a day? I click on 'Remember me'' each time.

Is this after you've closed the browser and then come back and open a new browser window?
And if so, what browser are you using, Internet Explorer, Firefox ??
Had another thought, is it happening after you've followed a link in a thread to another thread?
I had the identical problem, with IE 7, which was finally solved by deleting my cookies, and re-logging into the 3 sites. It's the only way I found that worked.
Thanks, DJ and Chris.
I had to log in now to write this reply, after reading your posts.
After reading your posts I clicked on Reply and was taken to the window which tells me I am not logged in.
I use Internet Explorer.
I am not sure about cookies but use a clearing programne a couple of times a day, always find this Forum racks up many more cookies than any others I visit!
Turn off your internet security programe espically the firewall, log in and then turn it back on again, Ca anti virus was doing it to me , once I had logged in with the anti virus & firewall turned off never had a problem again :2tsup:
I had that problem, until I discovered that CCCleaner was cleaning out all my cookies every time I started up.
Thanks all you blokes. I am out of my depth here but shall email our friendly computer tech. tomorrow and she will guide me in following your suggestions.
Shall let you know.
Unless something has changed without my noticing it (entirely imaginable, of course), this is normal procedure. Software does an automatic logout after about 1 hour of inactivity.
Someone, please confirm or deny.
Cheers,
Joe
I never have to re-login unless for some reason I clear the browser's cookies or private data.
FWIW, I run Firefox (on Linux)
Only if you haven't clicked "Remember Me"
If you have clicked "Remember Me" it resets the time of your last visit. If you scroll back through the "New Posts" you'll come across this headingQuote:
The threads below have not been updated since your last visit but still contain unread posts.
The software we run tends to set several cookies, they're only a few bytes each. When you consider the capabilities and storage capacity of modern computers, worrying about them is like removing 4 blades of grass from your backyard and thinking it makes a difference.
They save you from having to re-login each time you visit the site, I don't bother deleting them on ly computer.
regards
Apparently the automatic logout is no longer in effect. I usually logout after each session, but maybe I forgot yesterday, because today I was still logged in.
I almost always tick "Remember Me" out of habit. But I thought it mainly served to link the separate URLs. And even then, it sometimes didn't IIRC.
Yes, I get the intermediate heading you cite, within "New Posts."
Firefox, BTW, but without automatic upgrades, as a self-imposed security measure.
Thank you for all your assistance, and also for the team's diligence in spam prevention.
