Gumbies from Bunnies

Had to duck down to Bunnies (to get the extra pieces for my new Mitre Box and saw that weren't in the flamin' box :mad: ), and just inside the door, they were selling gumboots, with the Bunnies logo all over them:eek: , for a DOLLAR:D That's right, $1 for cheap, hideous, foot attire that advertises our favourite shop. Didn't get any for me, but the little miss is very proud of her new booties and now I don't have try to stop her wearing socks and sandles out on the lawn when it's raining like it is now (pithing down ... thank goodness, we need it). Of course, she just HAD to test the new boots out properly so now I have to change her clothes, but at least her socks are dry :rolleyes:

Gumbies from Bunnies. Trouble is, I can't work out what the greater cost is, the dollar or having to wear their advertising:confused:

A dent in your pride is a very small price to pay for a happy kid. Take a look at her smile, that'll fix the dent. ;)

Just broken in my new mitre box saw ... pressy from Mum and Dad :D (impoverished and it's a cheapy but it's bloody mavelous, especially after the gadget I built from timber about fifteen years ago). After mid-day tucker, I'm heading out to fit my huge new saw (the big GMC Platinum) to my Triton (replacing the tiny one I 'borrowed' from Dad about three years ago), play with my new Router trimmer (the 450W Ryobi - perfect for rounding off bits on boats ... such as rubbing strips, square masts, etc) and then I'm going to lovingly open my new Block Plane (only a Stanley but you ought to see the abuse these things get when building boats - the old elcheapo that I filched from Dad gets more use than anything else, including my pencil). Yeeha. I'm broke but I'm tool happy :D

Hey Stuart, I was able to 'rescue' my Dad's old vacuum cleaner for my shed. Time to covert my Triton Dust Bucket to a cyclone. What's the latest technology there? (yes, I've done a search - scary process. It appears this has been discussed before).

The new GMC saw has a dust pickup on it - a shute that apparently covers you with sawdust if you don't have something plugged into it. I'm looking forward to seeing how that works and hoping I don't have to go with one of those horrid bags that Triton sell you. Funny how the new GMC saw looks like a blue version of the Triton saw isn't it;)

Down the bottom, you will find the links to the PDF for making the Sturdee Dust Bucket conversion. Alternatively, there are some excellent sites showing how to make one from scratch, so totally up to you what you are prepared to do.

By the way, on that same web page, you will see how I've modified the dust bag so it has a suction collection, rather than a passive bag. (For my 4" collection unit)

Of course, you don't have to make the funnel (you can buy a cheap plastic one!)- I was just seeing what I could do with a bandsaw! Some guys have hacked the top off one of those cooler water bottles, and that narrows it down to the standard triton hose size.

..and I've gone a slightly different way again to hook up my 4" dusty. I hooked a 100mm PVA wye piece between the top and bottom bags, (funnel at the top, a round disk below) then drilled a series of 1/2" holes in the side of the wye opposite the "takeoff."

The holes give a cross-flow (and also stops the top bag from "sucking in") that sucks up the dust while allowing the larger chunks to fall into the bum-bag. You know the pieces... 0.5mm wide and a few inches long... perfectly sized to snag in the duct and create a blockage somewhere you can't access. :rolleyes:
