have shipping container i want to put a 6m long x 3m wide cover over temporarily when i need to work in front of it once in a while, can anyone recommend a DIY made thing like this or a retail item for this that will work ok to keep the shade off and have 3 sides to it??? 2 long sides and one short? to stop people seeing in there as well so its a bit private, so not shade cloth sides.

In which case you cant make poles and use guy ropes and pegs.
Next option if you cant use guy ropes and pegs in the ground is make poles and horizontals that bolt together that can have a tarp tied to the top and sides.

Yeah, bitumen limits your options somewhat.
Being in a publicly accessible area, a car park, I guess you will also have to consider the "what if's" - what if a gust of wind lifts the temporary shade shelter???
Seeing some of the ludicrous and unreasonable exclusions that have come to light in the past few years the public liability insurer for the complex may also have issues with fixed or temporary "structures" in the car park. Good luck!
Just have a look at the site conditions for market stall gazebos these days with hold down requirements etc. Perhaps a simple free standing gazebo may be your best option. Secured to the container/s on one side with weights on the opposing side.
I think Wozzzzza should consider one of the ready made concertina style marquees particularly as he anticipates pulling it down at the end of the day. The one I am linking below is reasonably made and a little more robust than the 3m x 3m versions. I have one of these from this seller, but mine does not have sides.Quote:

It can be erected by one person, but two people make the task easy. It ticks the boxes for some privacy and collapsability (is that a word?) and I would suggest the difference in cost compared to improvising would be small.
I note it comes with both guy ropes and sand bags, although the bags may not be large enough. I expect the corners of the marquee could be fixed to the top of the container corner posts. For $300 it is just about ready to go. Comes in a choice of colours.

Something along the lines of what Mic-d said but use castor wheels and some small wheels at the bottom and then clad it with colorbond as it’ll then cover the roof and side of the container and blend in when it is retracted

the 1.4m of straight out from the container is for the doors to open all the way out if needed without hitting the rails that start out at 2.6m high and go down to 2m high incase it rains to give it run off.
using an 8m wide by 7m long wide tarp to hang over the top and sides and a 4m x 3m tarp for the end of it. i will use some bricks to hold the tarp to the ground and rope to tie it to the rails where i can
whole setup will fold down flat and can be stored between the 2 containers there is a bit of space.
thoughts on this???
We have had a lot of very strong winds lately so it needs to be very strongly attached so it dosn't blow away. Who ownes the carpark?
