A brief intro to Eugene

My base is in Warragul Victoria as a retired professional. I've studied and written about trees and their products, including wood, for past 30 years. But unlike most of you here, I am not a wood worker or craftsman. However, I do understand the physical and chemcial properties of woods you use and like. If anyone is interested I can offer advice or a wide range of woods, most in smaller sizes, mostly for smaller projects or for those who wish to explore and discover new woods, Australian or exotic. I hope I may be able help some members with questions about wood properties or wood toxicity and also learn a lot from you here. Some of you nwill be aware of me from the International Wood Collectors Society where i have been active for a while. That will do. :)

You're right, I have little to show with my woodwork skills. The material is more interest than what I can make with it. Most of my early creations I gave away. I prefer studying and sharing knowledge about wood and hope I can do that here. I am a more technical type, but assume that is welcome here. Cheers, Eugene :)

Had a look at that wood but it does not look familiar. Colour is unusual if its as shown ie quite grey with a very thin sapwood. May be an Acacia but the heartwood colour is like no acacia I have seen and I have seen many. Woods are much easier to id if one can see them upo close and feel their weight (density) smell the end grain etc.
