For me a success do is for people to have a good time and for them to leave wishing they could stay and / or get home wanting to come again.
On that scale it was a great weekend.
Thank you all who made it. Thank you to those who have followed with interest. You all made it a special weekend in different ways. What also stood out is how everyone watched how they spoke around the kids. Again thankyou
There will be mre pics by myself and others to come.
Yet to be judged is the firewood challenge. I hope to get the pics together and posted in the next few days. For the attendees I ask theysend their vote to Treecycle and he will talky them up and announce the winner. I will post a link to a forum poll where all members will have a chance to vote. Attendees will be abke to cast a vote here as well

Still looks like it could do with abit of work ;)
Our shed is dirty aswell. Need to clean up after last weeks effort to get things done so we could come down.
I'm so glad we did, even though it is a long drive. As dad already said we had a great time and thank you very much for your hospitality and also thanks to everyone else there. I had a wonderful time learning new things.
Put me down for next year if thats whats happening :)
Dirk.

Ah Ha - I've restored my reputation!
It took two of Dave's "phoney images" to produce this image he wanted!!

Really, it was a fantastic weekend Dave and Rachael hosted and a delight to meet those who were there for the short time I was able to be there. Woodies truly are a great bunch of people.:bgth:
Dave,
I would have loved to be there as well but unfortunately my health precludes me from doing things I used to do such as camping, living rough or driving distances.
My body is a bit like a house infested with termites, looks great on the outside but internally I'm dealing with the remnants of cancer, stop my autoimmune system from killing my liver and suffering from a partially collapsed lung as well as other bits and pieces that has started to wear out.
Thus I was only an armchair participant of this great gtg. As such I enjoyed what went on and seeing some photos. I would have liked more posts and photos but realise that that far west there was no internet available. :C
So Dave from an armchair participant thank you for putting on such a great weekend, it sure lightened things up for those who could not came. Also thank you for collecting my chuck from Elderly and to Gabriel for delivering it. Much appreciated.
Peter.
BTW where is the great group photo of all the participants. Those that left early could have been photo shopped in and it would be a great record of a great long weekend.
Oh that picture. Nice job. Amazing what you can do with a 'real camera'
For those who never made the tutorials Bob taufht us a lot. As well as how to photoshop and tweak photos there qas this one loner he used a few times, now how did it go?
If you want a phone dont buy a camera. If you want a camera buy a phone

Hi Dave,
Congratulations on organizing a great weekend, I wish I had have been there. Next Time!
Ray
Many thanks to Rachael and Dave for putting on a great weekend with a host of good people to share some good times. Sorry I didn't say goodbye to everyone you all looked so into what you were doing I didn't want to disturb the peace.
Pity about the stool I was making cracked as I would have loved to give it to Sam, oh well that's one I owe her for next time.

With the power of Photoshop - crack is repaired. Now it's up to Dave to complete the repair.
I didn't see the completed stool, ripper job Craig! !!! (And Bob with the cosmetic help.. if new 'TV week' can do it surely we can get away with it)Quote:

I'm not sure the treadle lathe was repaired. It may be all smoke and mirrors from OldGreyBeard. ;)
A couple of photos taken by Dave with my camera - not his "phoney" thing

THANKS HEAPS - Raechell and Dave for a fantastic weekend. Really appreciate the work you guys have done putting this together and the hospitality you showed to everyone:2tsup:
Keith and Cathie
I'm sure Sally and I will be there ,kicking the dust ,chewing the fat.
Even if it clashes with the Melbourne GTG end of the month [emoji45]
But please don't invite the flys , I know that's not politically correct.
And you may call me a flyest I don't care.
[emoji3][emoji3][emoji3][emoji3][emoji3]
So you'll be expecting Dirk and Matt on Wednesday for the initial clean up again??
I'll put my hand up for attending, can work with any dates (you're first in with an offer.....and there isn't a better one yet)
Better work on my carving skills so I don't have to leave Pete high and dry again....
Cheers
Gab
Well if Gab is going to be carving .
I better get another saw handle hacked out for his carving skills then .to pass on to someone
And I think I will bring my own broom on Wednesday clean up day [emoji57]
There are no problems
Just solutions(more wood)to be found.
It's all down hill from here sorry Gab,
Have a look if you haven't all ready found them on the web
Two lawyers saws
you want me to get into SOOOO much trouble with the lovely other half don't you.... ok, I have bookmarked it, for when I win lotto
Next get together I want to have 6 prepared demos.
2 each day. One morning one night
What would we like to see
Dave
The Turning Cowboy
A few ideas...
don't know how practical they would be, but maybe a router table setup and some box making demos?...maybe something different from the gifkins jig (as most of us have seen that at the shows)....
Possibly thread chasing on a lathe (maybe that's just me wanting to learn)
Some other finishing techniques, I haven't ever seen ncl bring used but many swear by it.... how to use burnishing oil properly,
Maybe a demo from some of the toy boys (that sounds bad) about how they go about either the design or from an idea into production.
I know there is a dedicated day happening in Sydney soon, nut sharpening techniques
I'll keep thinking. ..
Some great ideas Gab

Alternative finishing / embellishing techniques:

Piercing
Edge carving
Staining, dying,painting

Some more good ideas. Thx Bob

Among the small group who attended we have a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience on a very diverse range of woodworking and general subjects. With or without planned demos the exchange of ideas and inspiration over the weekend was amazing.
I think 2 planned demos a day would be a good balance, leaving plenty of time for spontaneous interaction and sharing as well. Good idea Dave, and great to see all the other suggestions for demos/workshops.
Looking forward to next year already.:2tsup:
Cheers
Doug
