Mirboo I took the family to Berry Reserve at Narrabeen Lake.
Oh the humanity............
Oh the horror................
I am so over those supposed BBQ breakfasts that have become a "tradition"
Bloody politicians manipulating feelings of patriotism through corny community displays.
If I see another teenager wrapped in the flag I'm going to go over to them and disgrace myself.
Aussie Day here has been me working on the deck, and listening to the JJJ Top 100 countdown. And as the photo of the radio indicates, I opened my first Coopers at 4:30 rather than 5:00 given that it is Australia Day and SWMBO and the kids are away for a couple of days.
Am about to head to the pub, may take some more photos after I return :puke: or maybe not
I was going to switch to listening to the cricket but the Poms pathetic performance is just giving me the tom tits. My grandmother was a Pom, maybe she'll get a call up - and she's been dead for 18 years!!!
I figured since it is Australia Day then there ought to be some pics eh?
So here's Boatmik working feverishly on the PDR's while I slept inside, then off he goes for a sail on Gruff, my 12 year old Goat Island Skiff.
Trouble is it's really hard to get pictures of the Goat Island Skiff that make it look as though it's moving because it displaces so little water there's no splash!
Cheers,
P:D :D
Pic 1 is across the road and down a few hundred metres, revegetation work by local landcare group and conservation volunteers. All the guinea grass had been slashed and poisoned and rainforest species planted in the last few weeks.
Pic 2 is the same area, looking downstream. You can see the trees that were planted about 2 years ago.
I didn't do any planting, but I have done hazard reduction burns either side of the plantings to protect them and have used our brigade's truck to water them.
Pic 3 is down at the river, looking upstream. Had some good rain last night so there's been a nice flush out.
Pic 4, same spot, looking downstream
Pic 5, creek that feeds into the river, looking upstream to the road and bridge.
Pic 6. More tree plantings by landcare and conservation volunteers (some of the conservation volunteers are young backpackers who've come halfway across the world and are pitching in). In the background is our brigade's shed, built with funds raised by volunteers, built by volunteers, lawn is mowed by the young son of one of the volunteer officers (voluntarily, of course:D )
Volunteering certainly isn't unique to Australia but it's nice to live in a community and country where people care enough to contribute and where one can make a worthwhile contribution and make a difference.
Happy Australia day all! :2tsup:
continued from above.

I had to work, and ended up mowing bloody grass between 11am - 3 pm.
Had to mow out about 10 meters around the place I'm staying at.
30 something degrees and humid as hell.
Stupid, bloody-minded Aussies. :D
Time for a cold water and put a "steak" on for dinner.
Bummer Clinton, Hope the "water" went down well.
Harry Good photos mate, Like how the pelican was using the shag as a surfboard.
Great shots Harry...............got any more...........AL
Yeah got more but dont want to clog up this thread too much... its not dial up friendly already!
Thank you cliff (and someone else) for the honourable mention on the craigs hut photo. Interestingly that was the original light no photoshopping or colour enhancement. just a trick of the hot yellow sun and smoke haze.
sadly ythis patch of bush doesn't look like this any more. (got burnt)
Spent the weekend with relo's n friends at Bendethera camping and 4wd'ing.
