 I guess the longer time limit also prevents PM's being sent and received to buyers and sellers in quick time.

Agreed, more likely an issue with your DNS provider.
Have your tried updating your DNS settings to different provider.
You could try the Google settings mentioned previously by Evanism.
Also make sure you don't have an entry for woodworkforums.com in your computers hosts file.
PS - we're working through a few fixes along with looking into this.

Hi again,
Still off-air here in San Antonio and it's not just my computer. Nobody I've asked locally can get on the site via regular Internet access. I still have to use TOR to bypass the blocking servers.
Thanks,
Rob
Just spoke to my son in Houston, he had a look and it's running like greased lightening there. He's on AT&T so maybe it's a local thing in San Antonio. Got me beat. Steven's banging his head against a brick wall but looking into it.

Woohoo! I am on now via the normal Internet, not using TOR to sneak in through the back doors of Sweden or Turkey. Thanks for all of your efforts guys!
It works! Pictures and all!
Whaa! Not working for me again! At least I got to post some pictures. :(

I think the squirrels are conducting a series of rolling strikes. Yesterday (Tuesday) I couldn't connect to the forum from about 5 o'clock in the evening, and despite many attempts during the night I had no luck. I tried again at 5:00 this morning and still no luck, I was able to connect after 8:00 this morning. Again this arvo at about 4:00 o'clock I was unable to connect, tried again at 6:00 and all good.
That was short lived for Grumpy, apparently. He just emailed me and asked me to post the following (hasn't been able to get on since yesterday arvo):

lightning fast here at Woodstock
Grumpy John has been on the phone to me & we've had a couple of e-mails.
he still can't get in.
works fine for me.
I was able to get on briefly this morning and in the afternoon on my mobile but at this time both the mobile and regular Internet are not working. I'm posting now using TOR - slow and cumbersome but at least I can post text.
I'm on again http://d1r5wj36adg1sk.cloudfront.net...appy/clap2.gif.

The common link seems to be west-datacenter.net after that everything goes pear shaped.
Why is the forum powered by squirrels anyway, why can't we use fruit bats?
They are probably cheaper.:D
Or cane toads?
It's working very well now! Thanks to all for the time and effort.
Back on again. Transient outage?
Not related to forum access, but for the last couple of days, when I post a reply to a thread, there is no formatting bar above the reply window. Also, can't get a new para by hitting "enter". (pressing enter here to get a new para) Hasn't happened every time but only worked properly once or twice in the last 48 hours. Just previewed the above, and no new paras are evident. Same thing happens when I edit the post to correct it.
Today no problems. Thanks a lot guys! Nobody ever thinks about the efforts of the plumber until they're knee deep in ####. You deserve a round of applause.
Firefox has done a few strange things lately. Even seemed to uninstall itself on the factory computer. Can't get it at all and even a fresh download didn't work. Had to delete old version and reinstall afresh. Could have something to do with that.Has also stopped running properly on home PC tonight so using Chrome. Bit weird but hey weird happens.
I had the same thing a few days ago plus the computer got so sssssooooooooooowwwwwwwww slow then would only boot in safe mode, had to do a reboot of the computer to factory in stall default set up plus now all is good and very fast.
My mate who has looked after all my IT needs said in the last week or so he has had at least 10 customers with very similar problems, cant track down to specifics but relates to MS auto download updates.
Interestingly, since the reboot only have a fraction of the cr@p on the HD and runs a lot cooler also with all the software and files that I had before.
There were about 20 MS updates for Win 7 published on the 12th of May.
I haven't downloaded them & installed them yet, sounds like it might be a good idea not to.
Hi,
The latest Firefox (38.01) added 2 plug ins/add ons for the latest streaming con, with out telling us and they took forever to load. Must be big.
Just check add ons, to see them.
Regards
Fortunately, running Linux I don't get those sorts of problems :) I'm still running the same machine that I bought 12 years ago. Having just done a restore to factory on a two year old Win7 machine for a friend for the same reason as you, I was surprised to note that my machine is just as quick as his. Comparing Firefox and Chrome with the same web sites on both machines. Libre Office starts up a little faster on Linux. Not much else to use to make comparisons with.
