That eulogy helped me know your brother, Timothy, and your commitment to care for him, being the big brother and more.
I find it hard dealing with someone who has lost a loved one, so forgive me for being late in sending my condolences.

Dave I know how you feel, it would have to be one of the worst things, having to write and say about the life of a loved one, especially for a sibling who is younger than you.
With what you wrote, I feel that I know him, and you also, the hard lives that you all faced. It's amazing that people fail school because it fails them, by having to do simple work instead of giving them harder work, yet they aspire to greatness.
It was a lovely and fitting way to say goodbye to your brother Tim, may he RIP.

Well done Dave. You brought a smile to my face whilst I read your eulogy; the first smile I've had regarding your brother's illness and passing. These are obviously the memories that you will continue to cherish. Thank you for sharing them with us.

What a wonderful eulogy Dave

Travel safe.
Thoughts are with you.
Dave and family,
you our all have had a hectic stressful time, if you don't mind a little advice from an old bloke, when you get home, take a little time out. I would call it some "you time", time to refresh, reflect, do something different that you always wanted to do but felt there were too many other pressing things that needed doing - they will still be there but are perhaps not as urgent as you think.
After you and yours recharge the batteries, all of those "pressing" things will get done quicker and better.
Just about to start the home leg. Only 400 km or so to go
Yes sleep sounds like a good and novel thing ;)

I have one more trip somewhere in the coming weeks. As he was cremated the ashes have not been released yet.
He will be placed in a wall at a cemetary somewhere near Southerland. I will go back for that but hoping tonleave Friday night and be home for work Monday.
I will travel alone for this one

The two auctions we ran to raise funds were extremely successful. The pen blank raised $300 and was won by Hiroller while the pen raised $160 and was won by Rod Gilbert. Congratulations to both of you.
However I would also like to thank all those who participated as this is what made the auctions the success that they were. in the pen blank auction the roll of honour was:
FlettyG
George mavridis
Mobyturns
Oldgreybeard
mannum3
hiroller
and in the pen auction
Pac man
keltrader
Chrism3
Lovetoride
Xanthorrehoeas
Bob38s
Rod Gilbert
Of course neither of these auctions were possible without the generosity of Mapleman and Ironwood. Fantastic ideas, good products and we saw the results: Just magic.
Thank you all so much for helping a mate.
Regards
Paul
G'day Dave
I live about 5k from Woronora Cemetery at Sutherland, and have a spare bed etc. ready for you if required.
Let me know the date and we can make arrangements. I might even let you play on my new lathe if there is a bit of time to spare:D. I have fond memories of the GTG at Jerilderie, and it would be great to catch up with you.
Alan...
To everyone that has helped and been there over the last several months a big heartfelt thanks from my family and I. You made a real difference. Words cant express the emotion and gratitude.

School holidays are over. Kids went back to school today. The last two weeks Raechell and the kids have been away visiting some of her grown up kids.
The last two weeks I have been staying in a caravan close to work. This was our first chance as a family today to say thank you. Please see the pic

What you dont know is just before all this help I had a phone call from the bank letting me know I was behind in my mortgage repayments. I did not tell Raechell at the time. Between your help and two weeks of flat out overtime (while the family was away) we have virtually accounted for all bills. Whoops Raechell just found out now about the bank as she proof read this lol
Sincerely thankyou
Oh and i believe there is a parcel waiting for me at the post office. Raechell tells me she will collect it tomorrow for me

Dave
That is the most wonderful "thank you."
Incidentally, I think you many go down in the annals of history with that hat of yours; Only to be rivalled by Bob Catter and Molly Meldrum, not that I would really wish to associate you with either of them in the same breath. :)
I trust the parcel is a good one.

Paul
Well a parcel was waiting for me today. 2 little ones were particularly interested. Tommy and Sammy

Once it was open Tyler wanted a piece of the action

Sammy got the lions share but in no time it was divvied out evenly

I think I'm gonna have to put up a fight for them (or wait till they go to bed)
Thanks to Hiroller and MM

Pretty snazzy building blocks. Hope the kids enjoy them.

I think it is important to state categorically what I expect many of you have guessed.
Firstly, of course, the generosity of Mapleman in offering up the blanks for auction to raise funds. Thank you so much and I hope that Forum members continue to support you in the almost endless stream of highly figured timbers that you offer up for our consideration and enjoyment.
In fact I am pretty certain that you have quite a lot of interesting Mango coming up. I think you should (still) consider changing to Mangoman  .
Secondly to Hiroller for his generosity in initially bidding for the pen blanks: Dare I say a little above market value? I am reminded of that first box of new season cherries that is auctioned off at the markets.
Thirdly, Hiroller doesn't actually own a wood lathe so, knowing Dave's love of woodturning, he donated them too. Wow! The Forums really do attract some amazing people. I consider myself privileged to know you all.
I have to say that Dave's post above of his children in their jarmies owning and dividing up the "building blocks" is just priceless. I hope you all get a kick out of that, particularly knowing that Dave is going to steal them back once their eyes are closed :D .
Extremely well done everyone and here I am including Ironwood, who made the beautiful pen also for auction, all those of you who donated funds and those of you who were not in a position to donate funds but offered words of encouragement, sympathy and ultimately condolence.
Thank you.
Regards
Paul
Sorry to side track this, but this is "one for my brother" also. Last Sunday, I got a text wanting to contact my brother, unfortunately he passed away 2 years ago last month. It turns out to be his son, the result of sowing ones wild oats on a Saturday Night, and forgetting to go to church on Sunday praying for a crop failure. The son is 30 years old, I'd heard of him, but being my brother thought it was full of BS as were most of his stories. Anyway we've been emailing back and forth, and hoping to catch up soon. Hoping he'll join this forum, as he's a tree lopper, so hopefully will get some nice pieces.
Kryn
Dave, hope you enjoy turning the blanks. Should go nicely with the gear from Timberbits. :;
Well earned. Save a few to turn with your kids when they are old enough.
Big thanks to MAPLEMAN for the blanks and to Bushmiller for making it happen.
Paul, you are a good man.
YES, this forum is a good place, the caliber of the folk I have both met & corresponded with, are up there with the best and I too want to add my appreciation & praise to all who supported Dave and his family....He's definitely ONE TOP BLOKE!!!!
What fletty said.
Late yesterday afternoon, I got a text message from the nephew saying he was on his way, about an hour later get another message saying we're on our way, delayed because a 9 YO threw a tantrum, (glad it's him and not mine) eventually getting here about 8.40pm after dropping the 2 girls at her mothers place. It was great to finally meet him, at long last. We talked for ages about his dad, him and his achievements, and missing out on the Olympic Board diving team by 20 points. They were here for about 2 hours, but it felt like 10 minutes. As they were leaving, he gave me some Red Gum logs and a couple of nice pieces of Black Butt, that I'll turn into an Urn, for my beloved mate's ashes.

Tough day today. Timothy would have been 43 today. Might have slipped by if it had not been for Facebook giving me a reminder.
Fighting back a tear from time to time as I think of him through out the day

Yes, I know exactly how you feel Dave, it was my brothers birthday 21st Sept, he would have been 59. Just remember the good times you've had with him growing up.
