Good to talk as always. It keeps us sane (nearly).
This is the link I mentioned. In brief the bloke takes an old Oak log, cuts it up with a chainsaw, surface with just a router, makes it into a table and along the way creates his own brass alloy:

I appreciate some of you have already seen this.

Another week has passed us by, Tune in today, same bat time, same bat channel.....
Sane is a relative term with reference to Paul's post above :)

I'll see you there. Topic could be what size do i cut pen blanks?
When Bob raised the issue of his small diameter Elm cuttings in todays hook up, we almost immediately digressed into Walnut with indecent haste  . I mentioned that a certain type of hand saw featured Walnut almost exclusively.
This thread identifies the specific use and I make mention of it at the end of post #2. It is also visible in the catalogue descriptions if you enlarge them.
It was a good discussion today, a little philo- sophical at the start, but what do we expect with inspiration from chairman "Phil."

Ps: Walnut was occasionally used for other saws too. Disston sometimes used Walnut for their early D8 saws and during the WW2 they used it for their Victory saws (D-15s which were marketed as D42 and D43) instead of Rosewood, which became unobtainable.
Another week has passed us by, so in a nod to the topic ..... I get my kicks above the waistline, sunshine

For those that have got this far, I'm not going to make this week so feel free to adopt or ignore the topic :)
Let's just be clear here before anyone makes a fool of themselves; you mean vices like smoking, drinking, gambling and the pursuit of women of easy virtue, right?
Or will it be vises like shoulder vise, tail vise, leg vise, saw vise, wagon vise, moxon vise?

Lets not start about English and American spellings; I already know.
Perhaps it is just as well I can't make today with such an ambiguous subject.
I think it is a good one. As my absentee contribution have a look as this bloke.

Ooooh!
Hitting things hard. Sounds great. I will see what I can do. I just have to fit the Prattle in between concreting. I have a little beauty included in the line up courtesy of IanW.
