I did a little soul searching since the last post I made (and a PM to DPB) and I'd like to say a bit more for what I hope is the betterment of the forum.
After researching a few hundred posts I have made and, discounting those made in the non woodwork categories (Nothing at all to do with Woodwork, Polls, Announcements, Buy Sell 'n Swap, Woodies Jokes, Woodwork Pics, Non Woodwork and Hatches Matches Dispatches...), my signal to noise ratio is less than 10% (which I'll try to improve btw). Not included in that review was a number of PMs of help to others and many links to pages on my website where I store information for others to use (I do not post my site for everyone to see because of the bandwidth that gets chewed up).
However, I now wonder how many culprits there actually are who provide no woodworking content, 90% noise, or, as Redwood indicated, less than 80% woodwork related? I think it is time to "put up" some facts to support this feeling and talk to the individuals concerned about it. There was a thread a short while ago about the use of reddies, let me offer a quote from the FAQ, and I'd like the admins to comment if they feel it doesn't apply here:
"Negative reputation should be given if the person is posting something that detracts from the conversation. If the post is rude, inappropriate, breaks forum rules, is not gracious, etc; these are all good reasons to give negative reputation."
If people have an issue with a post that detracts from the conversation (hijack or humour), a reddie is appropriate. That will give ongoing feedback to newbies and the old hands alike, and be easily tied to a thread.
What I would like to suggest as the best remedy to this issue, is to use the reputation system for what it appears to have been intended.
So, unless otherwise directed by UBeaut and co (hopefully with a reason), I no longer plan to leave as I have not broken any of the so called "limits" mentioned throughout this thread or the conditions of use - sorry if that disappoints anyone.
